Practice Report: Sept. 4

LSU added another linebacker to its ranks this week in the form of true freshman Donte Starks, and he made his practice debut on Wednesday.

Starks missed fall camp and the early part of the season due to academic eligibility issues, but those issues have been resolved and he has officially joined the team.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said during the weekly SEC Teleconference on Wednesday morning that Starks was officially with the squad.

“Yes, he’s eligible,” Orgeron said. “He’s part of our team. He’s going through the acclimation period right now.”

Orgeron did not expand on what he meant by “acclimation period,” but he is in practice and seems to be taking reps without limitations.

The young inside linebacker likely has a long way to go — and definitely has a lot of talented names to get past — before he sees significant playing time, but considering he nearly missed the year due to his eligibility issues, it’s heartening to see him working out with the full team in practice.
