LSU is going out of its way to protect starting tight end Trey’Dez Green, a true freak at his position at 6-foot-7 and 237 pounds, during preseason camp.
Green wears a yellow jersey, usually reserved for injured players to remind teammates they are not to be hit. Green is not injured, but he is one of LSU’s most valuable weapons. He is already the school record holder for career touchdown catches by a tight end with 11 after catching 33 passes for 433 yards and seven TDs last year.
But just in case, something happens, there is backup tight end Malachi Thomas (6-3, 242), a junior transfer from Pittsburgh. He caught 13 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns last year.

Played in all 13 games, serving on special teams and as a reserve tight end … All of his season receiving production occurred at SMU, where he had 2 receptions for 22 yards and a 1-yard touchdown catch … Logged a 12-yard kickoff return against West Virginia.
