One of the best high school running backs in America is staying home.
Five-star Destrehan running back John Emery has committed to LSU, the elite prospect announced on Twitter Tuesday evening. The former Georgia commitment is considered the No. 2 running back in the 2019 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Landing Emery is massive news for LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who has been telling everybody who’ll listen that LSU wanted to add at least one more elite running back in 2019. The Tigers already hold a commitment from four-star prospect Tyrion Davis of Southern Lab.
The prevailing narrative for years has been that Louisiana is loaded with talent for the 2019 cycle. By adding Emery, LSU now holds commitment from four of the top five players with five-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher set to decide between LSU and Alabama in February.
LSU now has 20 verbal commitments for its 2019 class with little more than a month to go before the Early Signing Period. This latest pledge bumped LSU up to No. 5 in the 247Sports Class Rankings, filling in behind Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia and Oregon.
