Ridley confirms RB coach has taken head job with other Tigers

Tiger Rag staff report

After last week’s heartbreaking loss to Ole Miss, the Tigers came out on the right end of what was another turbulent ending in SEC play. This time around, Les Miles’ men prevailed 33-30 in overtime over Bobby Petrino’s Arkansas team.

Following the game, excitement and jubilation filled the room for post-game interviews, particularly in the case of the seniors who just competed in their final game in Tiger Stadium.

But while the upperclassmen reviewed their thoughts on closing out collegiate careers, one LSU player did give an update on a Bayou Bengal coach in the rumor mill.

Second-year rusher Stevan Ridley confirmed that LSU running back coach Larry Porter had accepted the head coaching job at Memphis. When asked if Porter addressed the team on the subject, here’s how Ridley responded:

“He did. Actually, I talked to him today. He was telling us that he’s getting out of here, but that’s a good move for him and his family. I’m excited for him, and if he decided to stay, I would love for him to stay, but a head coaching job, that’s a big step.”

Ridley sensed his position coach was being granted a longtime wish that any assistant coach longs for.

“That’s what he’s been dreaming for his whole life, so I mean it’s kind of like a dream come true for him,” Ridley added. “I’m excited for him. I really am.”

No. 34 also feels the Conference USA school made a wise choice.

“Memphis got ‘em a good one. man,” continued Ridley. “I’m going to be honest with you: Coach Porter expects a lot out of his players. I feel for his players when it comes to that, because Coach Porter really is — he’s going to push you and he’s going to get everything out of you. He’s going to make you a man, and you have to be ready to work hard.

“Coach Porter’s a great coach, and that’s a program that’s going to be on the rise up under him, I’m telling you that. I’m excited for him.”
