Former LSU star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports.

The 33-year-old began his 11th NFL season with the New York Giants – the team that drafted him 12th overall in 2014 – but was cut on Sept. 29. Coach John Harbaugh said the team was not getting enough out of the veteran’s roster spot and could not give Beckham the opportunity he needed to be effective.

Beckham agreed with an Instagram post by “realbcasbreakscomment” that the Giants used him as a publicity stunt. In a comment he posted Oct. 3 on the video criticizing the team, he wrote that he agreed to a veteran-minimum contract and earned his spot on the active roster, but New York gave him the “run along” while he could have been making a real impact elsewhere.

That impact could come in Minnesota, although the three-time Pro Bowler will initially land on the practice squad. The Vikings are off to a 4-0 start, but they rank last in the NFL in passing yards per game and 31st in total offense.

Beckham will have a trip back to his hometown on Sunday as the Vikings visit New Orleans to face the 1-3 Saints. Beckham was born in Baton Rouge but grew up in New Orleans and attended Isidore Newman School before spending three seasons at LSU.

Another former Tigers receiver and Beckham’s Vikings teammate, Justin Jefferson, could make his return from a left ankle sprain against the Saints. Jefferson suffered the Grade 1 sprain in Minnesota’s 23-16 win over the Buccaneers in Week 3 and was sidelined last week.
