No. 21 LSU travels to No. 13 Georgia where Tigers are a game back of Bulldogs in SEC standings

No. 21 LSU softball takes a four-game winning streak to No. 13 Georgia for a three-game Southeastern Conference series beginning Friday.

The Tigers (28-16, 8-7 in SEC) and Bulldogs (36-9, 9-6) are separated by a game in the SEC series going into Friday’s opener at Jack Turner Stadium at 5 p.m. CST. The game can be heard live in Baton Rouge over 107.3-FM and it will be streamed by SEC Network+.

The series will continue at 1 p.m. CT Saturday and conclude Sunday with an 11 a.m. CT game time with both games televised on ESPNU.

LSU is coming off a 7-1 victory at McNeese State Tuesday night, extending its win streak to four games following its first three-game SEC sweep at home last week over South Carolina.

Sophomore third baseman Danieca Coffey LSU with a .387 batting average, followed by sophomore center fielder Ciara Briggs who is hitting .385.

Sophomore shortstop Taylor Pleasants is coming off a three-hit, two home run game that boosted her average to .331 this season, while senior Shelbi Sunseri leads LSU with 13 home runs and junior Georgia Clark (.267) rounds out the top of the lineup with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. Clark’s RBI mark ranks No. 3 in the SEC and No. 11 in the country.

Junior Ali Kilponen (14-4, 2.17 ERA, 107 strikeouts, 112.2 innings pitched tops LSU in the circle. Sunseri is 6-6 with a 2.73 ERA and 52 strikeouts, and freshman Raelin Chaffin is 6-2 this with a 2.94 ERA, 45 strikeouts.

THE LINEUP

LSU has a seven-game winning streak against Georgia and is 41-25 in the all-time series, including a three-game sweep in 2019. … Georgia is on a two-game winning streak and boast a 26-4 record on their home field. In SEC play, UGA has won its last two series 2-1 over then No. 11/12 Tennessee (April 8-10) and Missouri (April 14-16). … The Bulldogs are batting .330 this season which ranks third in the conference and 10th in the country, and leads the SEC with 379 hits, 320 runs, and 296 RBIs. In the circle however, the Bulldogs have a 3.56 ERA (No. 12 in SEC) despite 317 strikeouts (No. 3 in SEC). … Junior Sara Mosley leads the Bulldogs with a .402 batting average, 51 hits, 14 home runs, and 43 RBIs behind a .811 slugging percentage.

ON DECK

LSU returns home for four consecutive games, beginning with a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday April 26 against McNeese (SEC Network) prior to the final three-game home series of the regular season against Florida April 29- May 1.
