LSU suffered a major loss to its defense when STAR Dashawn Spears went down with a season-ending ACL injury, but Boise State transfer safety Ty Benefield has seamlessly slid into his versatile role in coordinator Blake Baker’s defense. Benefield is third on the team and leads all LSU defensive backs with 30 tackles this season. He also has one sack this year and nabbed his first interception as a Tiger in the 31-0 win against Mississippi State.
Benefield spoke with members of the local media on Tuesday about his new role in the defense and the challenges the No. 18 Tigers (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) face at Auburn (4-2, 2-2 SEC) on Saturday (11 a.m., ABC).
