Maybe he’s circling LSU before he commits to the Tigers.
Or maybe not.
LSU football recruiting prime target Easton Royal, the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation for the class of 2027 from Brother Martin High in New Orleans, has switched his commitment from Texas to Florida as of Sunday.
Royal (5-foot-11, 214 pounds) is a five-star prospect by 247sports.com and the No. 5 player in the country and No. 1 prospect in Louisiana. He committed to Texas on Nov. 29 of last year, but he flipped over the weekend after a visit to Florida, even though the Gators got pounded by underdog South Carolina, 38-19, on Saturday.
Royal visited LSU last May 28, but there is talk he may cancel a future visit to LSU.
Florida coach Jon Sumrall began recruiting Royal when Sumrall was the coach at Tulane, where he left after last season to become the Gators’ coach.
“I know he’s a winner,” Royal said of Sumrall to ESPN over the summer. “He won at Tulane and took them to the College Football Playoff (in 2025). I know what he’s all about. He’s the type of coach I want to play for.”
Sumrall was 11-3 last year with a loss at Ole Miss in the first round of the College Football Playoff before taking the Florida job after LSU coach Lane Kiffin turned down the Florida job. Sumrall was 9-5 in 2024 after inheriting a Tulane program from Willie Fritz, who was 11-3 in 2023 and 12-2 in 2022. Fritz left Tulane for the Houston head coaching job after the 2023 season.
Arkansas, Auburn and Tennessee are among the other programs recruiting Royal.
