LSU junior Trey’Dez Green has been named to the Mackey Award watch list for the honor that goes to the nation’s best tight end.
Named after one of the NFL’s greatest tight ends in John Mackey of the Baltimore Colts from 1963-71 and a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1992, the award will be given on Dec. 10.
Green holds the LSU record for most career touchdowns by a tight end with 11. The junior from Zachary High near Baton Rouge caught 33 passes for 433 yards last season with seven touchdowns, which is the school record for TDs in a season by a tight end.
A tall target at 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, Green was recently named a first team preseason, Walter Camp All-America. He has 46 career receptions for 534 yards. Green has already been named a Mackey Award national tight end of the week. That came after he caught eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown in a 20-10 win over South Carolina last season. That game began a stretch of three games in which Green caught 19 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns.
