LSU football coach Lane Kiffin changed two starters for the No. 10 Tigers’ game against No. 23 Texas A&M on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium that kicked off at 6:49 p.m. in Tiger Stadium on ABC.
Senior transfer safety Ty Benefield, who started the first three games at the rover safety spot, moved to the star starting position, replacing Dashawn Spears. Spears had started the first three games at star, but was lost of the season last week at Ole Miss in the second quarter to a knee injury.
Tamarcus Cooley remained as starting safety with Jhase Thomas starting in Benefield’s rover spot.
The other starting change saw sophomore transfer William Satterwhite, formerly of Tennessee, start at left guard over fifth-year senior Bo Bordelon. Bordelon started LSU’s first three games at left guard, but has struggled.
LSU (2-1, 0-1 SEC) will also be without starting tight end Trey’Dez Green, who injured his knee on the second play of the fourth quarter last week and did not return. He is expected to return after missing two to four weeks. Zach Grace started in Green’s absence.
The Tigers’ only other injury entering Saturday’s game is backup cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, who was listed as questionable on Wednesday through Friday and is a game time decision tonight.
Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1 SEC) will be without starting wide receiver/kick returner Terry Bussey, who was lost for the season with a knee injury suffered last week in the Aggies’ loss to Kentucky. Also out is backup running back Jamarion Morrow. Listed as a game time decision is wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman.
DAMIEN SHANKLIN DRESSES OUT
LSU redshirt freshman edge rusher Damien Shanklin dressed out for the game. He was not with the team at the beginning of preseason camp in August, but did return to the team later in the month. It is unclear if he dressed out for LSU’s first three games.
NO LANE KIFFIN BACK-TO-BACK LOSSES SINCE 2022
The last time LSU coach Lane Kiffin lost consecutive games was in the 2022 season at Ole Miss when he lost four in a row – 30-24 to No. 9 Alabama as the No. 11 team, 42-27 at Arkansas as the No. 14 team, 24-22 to Mississippi STate as the No. 20 team and 42-25 to Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl.
TEXAS A&M SECOND HALF
LSU has lost two straight to Texas A&M, but the Tigers led at halftime in each game – 18-14 last season at Tiger Stadium before a 49-25 loss and 17-7 in 2024 in College Station before a 38-23 loss.
