A caller to LSU football coach Lane Kiffin’s weekly radio show Thursday night got the answer she wanted right off the bat.
She asked what reserve linebacker Tylen Singleton needed to do to get on the field more after the redshirt sophomore from Many High in Many has played in only one of the Tigers’ four games so far this season.
“Well, he’s going to,” Kiffin said with a chuckle. “Not the way we wanted it to happen, but he’s going to play.”
No. 11 LSU (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) hosts McNeese State (2-3, 1-2 Southland Conference) on Saturday (6:45 p.m., SEC Network) in Tiger Stadium.
Singleton, who had three tackles with two solo stops and one for a 5-yard loss in LSU’ 35-6 win over Texas A&M Saturday in his first action of the season, has to play because of injuries to starting linebacker Whit Weeks and backup linebacker Charles Ross II. Weeks is out for several weeks after having surgery on a broken fibula, and Ross is out for the season after an injury.
“Now, he can’t just go out there and flash,” Kiffin said. “He has to play consistent.”
Sophomore Davhon Keys stepped into the starting role for Weeks last week and made six tackles, including five solo stops.
Kiffin continued to praise his team for the blowout win over Texas A&M, which allowed 506 total yards to Kiffin’s offense while it gained only 197 against LSU’s defense. Just a year ago, Texas A&M destroyed LSU, 49-25, in Tiger Stadium under previous coach Brian Kelly.
“We dominated in every phase of the game,” Kiffin said. “And it felt like the score could’ve been more. It was really an exciting win for me because of where LSU was at just a year before. Their guys had really dominated. And here we are only in our fourth game, and we were able to flip it. We’re just starting to build the program here. That’s what I like about last week. That was an established program.”
If Texas A&M had never fired Kevin Sumlin and they continued giving him $2 million raises every 4 years and he kept his 66.2% win percentage, the Aggies today would have saved $102 million and had two more wins 👀 #AggieFactThursday pic.twitter.com/sROgTpVyVu

The Aggies (2-2, 0-2 SEC) are in the third year of coach Mike Elko, who went 8-5 (5-3 SEC) in 2024 and 11-2 (7-1 SEC) and reached the College Football Playoff last season.
