Just two days after coming back from a 7-0 deficit to beat Kentucky, 17-10, on Sunday, LSU erased a 6-1 Southern lead in the third inning to beat the Jaguars, 16-6, by the 10-run rule in seven innings on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium after two rain delays.

The game’s start was pushed from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. because of the rain. Then just after a home run by LSU’s Steven Milam tied it 6-6 in the fourth, the rain hit and delayed the game for an hour and 13 minutes. It ended at 11:30 p.m.

“That was a good hurdle for us to get over,” LSU coach Jay Johnson said.

Milam had two home runs and finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Derek Curiel hit a grand slam to get LSU within 6-5 after three innings. John Pearson also homered for the Tigers (20-10, 4-5 Southeastern Conference), who won their third straight.

Curiel and Pearson each had four RBIs in the Tigers’ 13-hit attack.

LSU next plays Friday at Tennessee (19-10, 3-6 SEC) at 4:30 p.m. on the SEC Network. The Volunteeers beat Austin Peay, 13-4, on Tuesday. The Tigers and Vols meet again at 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2 with the series finale at noon Sunday on SEC Network+.

“It was a great night for the offense,” Johnson said. “A lot of guys contributing. It was good to be able to help out the pitching that way.”

The Tigers erupted for seven in the fourth with Pearson’s two-run homer and Milam’s second solo homer. Pearson added a two-run single in a four-run fifth for the 16-6 lead.

Reliever Danny Lachenmayer (1-0), one of seven LSU pitchers, picked up the win after working a scoreless fourth inning with no walks and one strikeout, using just 13 pitches to get three outs. Southern reliever Alexavier Lebron (0-2) took the loss after giving up five runs on four hits in a third of an inning.

Jaden Noot started for the Tigers. He allowed three runs on three hits with a walk in an inning and a third.
