The first pitch of LSU’s NCAA Regional baseball opener at Alex Box Stadium against Arkansas-Little Rock has been rescheduled for 5:06 p.m. after the original first pitch of 2 p.m., because of bad weather in the area, according to LSU and NCAA officials as of 3:15 p.m.

NO ONE TOLD JAY JOHNSON ABOUT BATON ROUGE WEATHER WHEN HE GOT THE JOB

The game could have been started at 2 p.m., but game officials feared they would have had to stop the game after an inning or two because of approaching storms and lightning. Game officials chose to start the game later so as to be able to play continuously instead of starting earlier, stopping for weather, starting again and possibly stopping again.

According to the national weather service, rain and lightning, or the threat of such, in the Baton Rouge area was expected to end at approximately 5 p.m.

The start time of the scheduled 6:30 p.m. second game of the four-team, double-elimination NCAA Regional will start 30 to 45 minutes after the end of the LSU game. That will be between Dallas Baptist and Rhode Island. The two winners play at 5 p.m. Saturday. No significant chance of rain is in the forecast for the rest of the weekend.

LSU coach Jay Johnson had not publicly named his starting pitcher for the game as of 3:30 p.m. A lineup was posted in the Tigers’ dugout, but the starting pitcher was taped over.
