LHP Nick Bush drafted in the eighth round by Colorado

Few would have predicted Nick Bush would be the first current LSU player off the board in the MLB Draft, but that’s the kind of charmed day the Tigers are having.

The third-year left was selected in the eighth round by the Colorado Rockies with pick No. 246 on day two of the MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon. The slot value assigned to the selection is $160,700.

Bush was expected to sign professionally after having a largely successful sophomore season at LSU, and that result seems almost certain as he goes on day two. Bush pitched to a 3.40 ERA this season working as both a starter and late-game reliever.

Lefties that throw 90+ mph are always valuable commodities when it comes to professional scouting departments, and Bush has a three-pitch mix that could profile him as a starting pitcher down the road. He’s been a solid contributor for two seasons after missing his first year due to Tommy John Surgery.
