LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson welcomed the nation’s top-ranked signing class this fall, according to both Perfect Game and Baseball America, as he works to turn around a Tigers team coming off its worst record (30-28, 9-21 Southeastern Conference) since Skip Bertman took over the program in 1983. LSU also brought in Baseball America’s second-ranked transfer class, featuring proven bats like Notre Dame outfielder Bino Waters and talented young arms like Gonzaga righty Landon Hood. The Tigers have played a handful of fall scrimmages but will take their revamped roster on the road for the first time as they take on Samford in a pair of exhibitions in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday and Sunday.
Johnson met with Baton Rouge media on Thursday to preview the fall baseball schedule and shed some light on his loaded new roster.
