Ex-LSU Star Kade Anderson To Make MLB Debut Saturday

The Seattle Mariners are calling up former LSU ace Kade Anderson, ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan reports. The left-handed starting pitcher will make his Major League debut against the Cubs on Saturday (6:15, Fox).

The 22-year-old is baseball’s top pitching prospect and ranked No. 5 overall by MLB.com. He leads the Double-A Texas league with a 1.06 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 135 strikeouts to just 13 walks in 93 ⅓ innings pitched and has posted a 10-1 record on the mound in his first professional season with the Arkansas Travelers.

The Madisonville native was the third-overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Anderson was an All-American and Baseball America’s National Pitcher of the year in 2025 when he led the nation with 180 strikeouts, ranking third in LSU history behind only Paul Skenes (209 Ks, 2023) and Ben McDonald (202 Ks, 1989). He posted a 12-1 record with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts and allowed a .211 opposing batting average while walking just 35 batters and led the Tigers to the programs eigthth national championship.

Anderson was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 College World Series after going 2-0 in Omaha with a 0.56 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 16 innings. He pitched a complete-game shutout to win Game 1 of the CWS Finals 1-0 over Coastal Carolina. He allowed just three hits and five walks while striking out 10 batters over 130 pitches.

The Mariners are third in the American League West with a 60-68 record as of Thursday evening. They sit just 2 ½ games back from the Minnesota Twins and 4 ½ games behind the division-leading Houston Astros.
