LSU women’s tennis opens season ranked No. 21

The LSU women’s tennis team will start the 2022 dual season ranked at No. 21 in the ITA Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The ITA Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the ITA National Ranking Committee. The National Ranking Committee is made up of the 12 ITA Region Chairs, with each chair casting an individual, secret ballot.

LSU, which opens the season at home Jan. 16 against Southern at noon, is one of six teams from the SEC in the Top 25 and is the fourth-highest ranked from the conference.

Strong fall campaigns in doubles action from graduate students Ena Babic and Taylor Bridges, and great singles play from Babic and senior Safiya Carrington, contributed to the Tigers’ positioning in the preseason.

Babic and Bridges will start the season at No. 25 nationally in doubles following a 5-3 performance in the fall that saw the duo grab four ranked wins and the consolation title at ITA All-Americans. The singles rankings feature Carrington at No. 54 following her runner up finish in the ITA Southern Regional alongside Babic, who checked in at No. 92 after posting an 8-3 record in singles play.
