The biggest LSU football signing since Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin flipped and signed a seven-year, $91 million contract with LSU last Saturday and left Ole Miss on Sunday has happened on the first day of the early national signing day period on Wednesday.

LSU commitment Richard Anderson, the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country by 247sports.com and No. 12 overall prospect from Edna Karr High in New Orleans, signed Wednesday with the Tigers in the highlight of the day for Kiffin in just his third full day in his new job.

That after several reports had Anderson putting off his signature decision until the second signing date in February.

LSU commitment Lamar Brown, a five-star prospect like Anderson and the No. 2 player in the country by 247sports.com’s composite rankings, is expected to delay his signing until February. Brown has the “athlete” designation in player rankings and is the No. 1 player in Louisiana from University High on the LSU campus.

But Anderson did sign at about noon on Wednesday after making an announcement in the Karr gymnasium at 11:49 a.m.

“Richard Anderson has signed,” Michael Scarborough of Tigerbait.com told Tiger Rag, though as of early Wednesday afternoon LSU had not yet published Anderson as a signee, nor had 247sports.com.

“HUGE,” Scarborough said on his Twitter.

Anderson (6-foot-4, 340 pounds) is the No. 2 prospect in Louisiana. LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson, who is expected to coach the Tigers through their to-be-announced bowl, has been Anderson’s chief recruiter for years.

Anderson committed to LSU on June 21, 2024. Wilson’s job status with Kiffin, who is bringing in many members of his Ole Miss staff, was an issue with Anderson. But Kiffin apparently ironed out any problems in a three-hour meeting Tuesday night with Anderson, Wilson, LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker, new LSU general manager Billy Glasscock, formerly of Ole Miss, and Anderson’s representatives, according to Matt Moscona of 104.5 RM, which is affiliated with LSU.

Two four-star LSU commitments are expected to delay their signings to Friday – the last day of the early period. Those are No. 4 defensive lineman Deuce Geralds of Collins Hill High in Suwanee, Georgia, and No. 22 offensive tackle Bryson Cooley of West Jones High in Laurel, Mississippi.

LANE KIFFIN LOOKING FOR A QUARTERBACK

A busy man, Kiffin was able to get in the mix for a much-needed quarterback in South Carolina four-star commitment Landon Duckworth (6-3, 195) of Jackson High in Jackson, Alabama. Duckworth is the No. 10 quarterback in the country and No. 8 prospect in Alabama. He committed to South Carolina on July 18 to first-year offensive coordinator Mike Shula, but he was fired after a 3-6 start to the season amid poor offense.

The Gamecocks finished the regular season at 4-8 overall and 1-7 in the SEC. LSU offered Duckworth back on Sept. 7.

Meanwhile, Kiffin got his third full day on the job going early Wednesday morning with three flips from his old school, Ole Miss, on the first day of the early national signing period on Wednesday.

No. 20 wide receiver Corey Barber (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) of Clay-Chalkville High in Pinson, Alabama, flipped from his Ole Miss commitment and signed with the Tigers at 7:37 a.m. on Wednesday. A four-star prospect, Barber is the No. 6 player in Alabama and No. 144 prospect overall by 247sports.com. He had committed to Kiffin and Ole Miss last May 9.

Barber decommitted on Sunday – the day Kiffin flew from Ole Miss to Baton Rouge as LSU’s coach.

Kiffin offered Barber a scholarship on Monday.

Also on Wednesday morning, Kiffin gained a flip from former Ole Miss commitment JC Anderson (6-7, 240), the No. 11 tight end in the nation from Mt. Zion High School in Mt. Zion, Illinois, where he is the No. 7 player in the state. Anderson had committed to Kiffin at Ole Miss last July 1. He committed to LSU on Tuesday and signed at 9:13 a.m. Wednesday.

Anderson, who will join returning 6-7 junior tight end Trey’Dez Green, received a scholarship offer from previous LSU head coach Brian Kelly on May 15, 2024, and unofficially visited LSU. Anderson also unofficially visited Penn State on Nov. 9. He visited Auburn on June 6 and Illinois on April 11. A four-star prospect, he is the No. 230 prospect overall nationally.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY PREVIEW

Kiffin’s third flip from Ole Miss so far was No. 65 interior offensive lineman Ryan Miret (6-6, 300) of Southridge High in Miami. A three-star prospect, Miret committed to Kiffin and Ole Miss on June 16. He decommitted from the Rebels on Tuesday, committed to LSU and signed with the Tigers at 9:52 a.m. Wednesday.

Another flip to Kiffin was from No. 75 wide receiver Brayden Allen (6-2, 197) of Lafayette Christian Academy in Lafayette. Allen, a three-star prospect, decommitted from Oklahoma on Sunday after committing to the Sooners on Oct. 1. LSU offered him a scholarship on Tuesday, and he committed one day before signing on Wednesday at 7:42 a.m.

All recruiting rankings that follow are by 247sports.com, unless other wise noted.

The day started with No 31 wide receiver Jabari Mack (6-1, 198) of Destrehan High in Destrehan signing with the Tigers at 7:12 a.m. A four-star prospect, Mack is the No. 234 player in the country and No. 10 prospect in Louisiana. He committed to LSU on March 22.

Minutes later, No. 9 offensive tackle Brysten Martinez (6-6, 308) of East Ascension High in Gonzales signed at 7:18 a.m. despite a late push by Texas, where he visited on the weekend of Nov. 22. He is the No. 82 prospect in the nation and No. 3 in Louisiana. Martinez committed to LSU last Feb. 13.

At 8:01 a.m., Dezyrian Ellis, the No. 28 ranked prospect in the country in the athlete designation, signed with LSU. Ellis (6-2, 180), who played quarterback at Franklin Parish High in Winnsboro, committed to the Tigers on June 28. A three-star prospect, he is projected as a cornerback and is the No. 13 player in the state.

No. 17 safety Aiden Hall (6-1, 205) of Edna Karr High in New Orleans signed at 8:13 a.m.. He is the No. 7 player in the state and No. 192 prospect in the nation. He committed to LSU on Aug. 3, 2024.

At 8:26 a.m., No. 68 safety Isaiah Washington (6-2, 175) of Haynesville High in Haynesville signed with the Tigers as the No. 24 player in Louisiana. A three-star prospect, he committed to LSU last July 4.

The latest commitment on Wednesday so far as of 3:52 p.m. was No. 9 composite rated cornerback Havon Finney Jr. (6-2, 157) of Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth, California. A four-star prospect, Finney is the No. 159 composite overall player and No. 11 prospect in his state. He committed to LSU on April 28.

LSU TRANSFER PORTAL UPDATE

With the additions of several wide receivers for the Class of 2026 above, two reserve LSU receivers from the 2025 team have decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, which has its next window of movement from Jan. 2-16.

LSU redshirt freshmen receivers Jelani Watkins and Kylan Billiot will be considering other schools should they draw interest. Watkins (5-10, 162), who is from Atascocita High School in LaPlace, is also on the track team at LSU. Billiot (6-3, 193), who made his decision to enter the portal early this week, is from Terrebonne High in Houma.

Watkins played in three games in the 2025 season (Southeastern Louisiana, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma) and caught two passes for 21 yards. He red-shirted in 2024 after appearing in two games but not recording any statistics. Billiot also red-shirted in 2024 and recorded no statistics in two seasons.
