If LSU can get by Auburn Saturday, it will enter an open week, then two pivotal home games versus No. 13 Alabama and 19 Texas follow that could make the difference between making the College Football Playoff and not.

And still road games at No. 11 Tennessee and Arkansas would be after that.

“I don’t want to look ahead, because this game is so important,” Lonn Phillips Sullivan of lsuodyssey.com told Tiger Rag Radio on Tuesday night. “Because this game at Auburn is so important, and it’s such a dangerous game in Jordan-Hare Stadium. LSU’s porobably going to have to win out, and that’s winning three SEC road games.”

And LSU has lost eight straight SEC road games going back to 2024, including two this season at Ole Miss and at Kentucky.

No. 18 LSU (5-2, 2-2 SEC) plays at Auburn (4-2, 2-2 SEC) at 11 a.m. Saturday on ABC with Auburn coming off a signature victory over No. 1 Georgia, 27-24, last week on the road.

“It’s going to be a monumental task,” Sullivan said. “Turnovers are going to be so important. Auburn forced three turnovers against Georgia, and the way they capitalized on them sealed Georgia’s fate. Sam Leavitt has got to find away to not throw an interception.”

Leavitt has thrown eight interceptions on the season, but he did not throw one in a game last week for the first time all season.

“LSU will have to generate a running game,” Sullivan said.

That will be up to running back Dilin Jones, who is fourth in the SEC in rushing with 566 yards. But he has done much of that on his own.

“He has broken so many tackles at the line,” Sullivan said. “Dillin Jones has been very impressive and physical.”

Because the interior of LSU’s offensive line continues to be a disappointment, drawing criticism from LSU coach Lane Kiffin throughout the season.

“Oh yeah, that’s been a surprise,” Sullivan said. “Both Aliou Bah (right guard) and William Satterwhite (who replaced Bo Bordelon at left guard) have been really shaky. As Lane Kiffin said, even the bad plays by the tackles (Jordan Seaton and Weston Davis) have been because of the guards. He’s really called the guards’ play out.”

Sullivan suggested perhaps giving Bordelon another shot or sophomore Devin Harper or freshman Darrin Strey.

“It may have to be Dilin Jones making guys miss at the line,” Sullivan said.
