Some of LSU’s best playmakers in history have worn No. 7, including quarterback Bert Jones from 1970-72 and cornerback Patrick Peterson, who was the first to wear 7 as a specially designated number in 2008.
Among those honored with No. 7 – emblematic of Tigers making big plays – since Peterson include running back Leonard Fournette, wide receiver D.J. Chark, safety Grant Delpit, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and offensive tackle Will Campbell.
Well, new coach Lane Kiffin is hoping for double the fun as he has given separate No. 7 numbers to tight end Trey’Dez Green on offense and linebacker Whit Weeks on defense. They will only the second Tigers to wear No. 7 in the same season since the number gained special significance in 2008. The previous two were Campbell and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. in the 2024 season.
Green has already shown major big play ability as he caught 33 passes for 433 yards and a school record seven touchdowns last season for a tight end. He is also the career school record holder for TD passes by a tight end with 11 going into his junior season.
Weeks, meanwhile, made 125 tackles as a sophomore in 2024 for second in the SEC with 10 stops for loss with 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception and six quarterback hurries. He is healthy again this season for the first time since 2024 after missing much of last season with an ankle injury.
