Lane Kiffin officially kicks off his first LSU season in just five days when the No. 11 Tigers host Clemson on Saturday (6:30, ABC). Between his heated departure from Ole Miss and recruitment of former NFL players, Kiffin’s first nine months have been at the dramatic center of the college football world. The Tigers will need to push an extracurriculars aside as they prepare to spot the ball against Clemson.
LSU won the schools’ Week 1 meeting last year 17-10. It was viewed as a staple, top 10 win and potential College Football Playoff preview at the start of the season, but both teams went on to disappointing 7-6 seasons. While Kiffin replaced head coach Brian Kelly, Dabo Swinney still leads a Clemson roster that lost nine players to the NFL draft. Swinney did welcome his largest portal class ever to rebuild the Tigers — 10 new transfers.
