LSU football coach Lane Kiffin embraces his villain role in a new Dr. Pepper “Fansville” commercial set to air this football season and leading up to it.
In the ninth year of the fictional college football town called “Fansville” in the Dr. Pepper commercials, Kiffin is pulled over while driving a red sports car in front of a “State College” stadium by Brian Bosworth, the former Oklahoma Sooner star linebacker who has played a town sheriff in the commercials.
“There’s a new bad boy in town,” the narrator of the commercial says as Kiffin is shown speaking from his car to Bosworth.
“Not really known for following the rules,” Kiffin says.
There are no former NFL players in the car with Kiffin being transported to LSU through the portal, though that would have been funny.
Kiffin just inspired the Southeastern Conference to come up with punishments for its member coaches signing players freshly cut from NFL, NBA and WNBA teams via recent judges’ rulings for athletes from the class of 2022 suing the NCAA for eligibility. The NCAA’s recent new rule allowing athletes to play five seasons in five years – instead of four in five – starts with athletes who began their college careers in 2023, skipping 2022 players.
Former Cleveland Browns tight end Daa’Quan Wright, who dressed out for a preseason game just last Saturday, cleared waivers after being cut by the Browns and committed to LSU this week. He had entered the portal last Thursday and is the first player in college football history to transfer back to school from the NFL. Kiffin also gained a commitment on Monday from defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, who was with the Saints during training camp this month before getting cut and entering the portal on Aug. 19.
Both Wright and Harris played for Kiffin at Ole Miss during the 2025 regular season before Kiffin left to become LSU’s head coach.
Kiffin has somewhat cultivated a bad boy image since he first became a college head coach at Tennessee during the 2009 season and was reprimanded by the NCAA in 2011 for making impermissible phone calls to recruits.
