The Will Wade Wow factor continues.

Wade, the first-year LSU basketball coach in his second term, landed another big splash recruit on Thursday in five-star point guard Reese Alston of Houston for his third top 17 high school player for LSU’s class of 2027-28.

Alston (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) is the No. 9 overall prospect in the country, No. 4 point guard and No. 1 player in Texas from Houston Second Baptist High. He announced his commitment on CBS Sports HQ on Thursday, choosing the Tigers over Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee and Wichita State.

“The trust I have in coach Wade,” he said when asked why LSU. “I’m not even his player yet. We’ve only known each other for a couple months, but we’ve been through so much already. He’s stuck by my side, even through everything we’ve been through already. So I know that a couple losses and a couple turnovers won’t ruin our relationship.”

Alston is the son of former NBA player Rafer Alston and is entering his senior season at Houston Second Baptist. The 247sports.com composite rankings list him as the No. 3 point guard in his class.

Alston excels at facilitating his teammates and can score at all three levels. He joins four-star LSU commit King Gibson in a loaded freshman backcourt. Gibson also chose LSU over Louisville on Oct. 5 to become the first high-profile recruit to commit to Wade in his second stint in Baton Rouge.

LSU also holds a commitment from Ruston High School dual-sport blue-chipper Ahmad Hudson. The nation’s top tight end has been committed to LSU since May and would like to play both football and basketball in college, although Nebraska has reportedly been making a push to flip the Louisiana native.

Wade’s 2027 class now features three commits ranked in the top 17 of 247Sports’ national player rankings. Gibson is listed at No. 16 and the No. 4 combo guard, and Hudson is ranked No. 17 overall and the No. 3 power forward.

After previously serving as LSU’s coach from 2017-22, Wade was fired and landed a year later at McNeese State for two successful seasons.

LSU went back to Wade after last season and hired him away from North Carolina State after one season and an NCAA Tournament bid last March. Wade put together his current LSU roster almost exclusively through overseas players and the transfer portal. His plan is to go more via the high school route for 2027-28 and in the future.
