Former LSU star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was cut from the Giants on Tuesday, and head coach John Harbaugh said after practice on Wednesday that it was because the team “(wasn’t) getting enough. It just wasn’t working for us.”

Beckham was selected by New York with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and returned to the team that he spent the first five seasons of his career with this spring. Through the first three games of the season, Beckham rarely saw the field, and his New York reunion ended with no catches on just one target.

“I wanted to be able to get more,” Harbaugh said. “I wanted him to be able to do more, wanted to get him on the field more, and whatever reason we weren’t able to do it. Put it on us. We weren’t able to get it done.”

Beckham was cut from the 53-man roster to make room for receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios, who was on the Giants’ practice squad and was out of his annual elevations to the active roster. New York also signed 2023 fourth-round wide receiver Charlie Jones.

“Roster spot-wise, we need more out of that spot, and that’s what we’re gonna do,” Harbaugh said. “Nothing about Odell, nothing that he could do in that sense; it’s just that we weren’t able to get it done, make it fit, make it work, whatever you want to call it. I was hoping we could, and we didn’t.”
