Tiger Rag Radio: How does LSU Manage Significant Early-Season Injuries?

LSU Tigers player Benefield (#2) in white jersey shakes hands with a coach on the sideline during a game.
Ty Benefield stepped up as the new STAR against Texas A&M with Dashawn Spears sidelined, but Lane Kiffin and the Tigers could rely on more reserves against McNeese State as the injury list grows. (Tiger Rag photo by Jonathan Mailhes)

We discuss the major injuries LSU is dealing with as it prepares for its final non-conference game against McNeese. LSU Radio sideline reporter Gordy Rush gives his insight on LSU coach Lane Kiffin’s attention to detail, quarterback Sam Leavitt’s progression and the dominant Tigers defense through the first four games of the season.

Gilbo, and Case Kishnik, our producer, and also reporter with the Louisiana Radio Network and Tiger.com.

1:17

1 minute, 17 seconds

Thanks for joining us as LSU is finishing the month of September with a 3 and one record. And as Lane Keifin, I

1:25

1 minute, 25 seconds

think he said Sunday, and he’s alluded to it a couple times, it feels like they’ve played a season already considering all the drama there was

1:32

1 minute, 32 seconds

leading up to the season opener against Clemson about rostering players and and there were other things as well. Even if you you throw in the the Jaden Daniels

1:41

1 minute, 41 seconds

number thing, uh that controversy that we had and that was that was that was uh done by Lifen. [laughter]

1:48

1 minute, 48 seconds

He’s responsible for that ridiculous controversy. So, yes, he is.

1:53

1 minute, 53 seconds

He was also wrong about it. [laughter] But, uh, so yeah, and then of course you had the Clemson game. Uh, you had the Louisiana Tech game and that bad first

2:02

2 minutes, 2 seconds

half and obviously the Old Miss game and everything that led up to that game and then you had a bounce back and beat a

2:10

2 minutes, 10 seconds

Texas A&M team last week, Glenn. And by the way, I should say Todd not here tonight. He’ll join us again next week

2:16

2 minutes, 16 seconds

here on Tiger Rag Radio. But um yeah, if you went into this game, there was, you know, there was a lot of things you needed to to check off, right, that you

2:25

2 minutes, 25 seconds

wanted to see. You wanted to see the accuracy improve from Sam Lev. You wanted to see LSU’s defense contain Marcel Reed. You wanted to see some guys

2:34

2 minutes, 34 seconds

step up with Tradez Green injured and out for the next several weeks. A lot of stuff that you really wanted to see in this game, and you were able to see it.

2:45

2 minutes, 45 seconds

Uh, and that was what was so refreshing.

2:48

2 minutes, 48 seconds

Right. Right. And and I think LSU played so well that they knocked themselves out of the poll. I mean, knocked themselves

2:55

2 minutes, 55 seconds

down in the poll because they made Texas A&M look so bad that LSU dropped from number 10 to number 11. When you add the

3:04

3 minutes, 4 seconds

how poorly&m played against Kentucky to how poorly they played against LSU, people are saying, “Oh, so LSU played

3:12

3 minutes, 12 seconds

itself out of a quality win over over Texas A&M by going down in the poll.” I I voted in the poll for years and uh [clears throat] it’s very rare

3:21

3 minutes, 21 seconds

that a team wins a game handily and go goes down in the rankings. Maybe they were ranked too high the the week

3:28

3 minutes, 28 seconds

before, people could say. But, uh, it’s it’s a good it’s a good part of the season for LSU to get a little break.

3:35

3 minutes, 35 seconds

Uh, MCN State is not an open week, but, you know, it’s kind of like a a preseason game. And then they have three

3:42

3 minutes, 42 seconds

games uh, be uh, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and um, who’s who’s the one after that? Uh, Auburn.

3:49

3 minutes, 49 seconds

Auburn. And then they have an open week before al the the real tough part of the schedule after the open week. uh because

3:56

3 minutes, 56 seconds

Auburn doesn’t look that good. But Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, then at Arkansas, Mississippi State looks tough.

4:03

4 minutes, 3 seconds

Kentucky looks better than than we thought going in. That’s going to be an interesting game a week from uh Saturday night in Lexington.

4:10

4 minutes, 10 seconds

Yeah. No, that will be an interesting game. But going back to Texas A&M a and really uh it it was a very similar

4:18

4 minutes, 18 seconds

defensive effort um that we saw against&M as we saw against Clemson where they just completely overmatched

4:26

4 minutes, 26 seconds

them, overwhelmed them, right?

4:28

4 minutes, 28 seconds

And I think with both teams, they have issues with their offensive coordinator.

4:32

4 minutes, 32 seconds

I think uh and in particular the Clemson game um when Clemson they’re now playing a different quarterback than who they

4:40

4 minutes, 40 seconds

started in the season opener, but there was confidence issues with that quarterback. I think there’s confidence issues with Marcel Reed.

4:47

4 minutes, 47 seconds

They might have a new one [laughter] soon.

4:49

4 minutes, 49 seconds

They may have a new one soon. Um so and I and LSU just completely exposed them.

4:56

4 minutes, 56 seconds

Yeah. and and you know they’re bad teams, but at least they LSU like in the past didn’t flop around with them for three quarters. You know, they they put

5:04

5 minutes, 4 seconds

them both away very quickly and they and they look good doing it. And uh you know, I also think this will be a good

5:12

5 minutes, 12 seconds

week to get Sam Levit some rest and maybe not play him too much against Mcnes. Though I I watched the replay of the game last night and he was still

5:20

5 minutes, 20 seconds

running quite a bit after he hurt his hamstring. So, I don’t think his hamstring is that big a deal, but that’s something that can nag you. So, he needs

5:28

5 minutes, 28 seconds

to get a lot of treatment and probably not be practicing much this week. Yeah. I’m curious. And not play much, if at all.

5:34

5 minutes, 34 seconds

Well, before we get into that, just what did you think of his were you surprised at how he he was able to hit how the how

Chapter 3: Analyzing offensive strategies

5:43

5 minutes, 43 seconds

well the passing game was able to perform. Now,&M came into this game, this this was a bit of a break for

5:50

5 minutes, 50 seconds

LSU.&M &&M had come into this game and remember schedule not nearly as difficult through the first three weeks as it was for LSU, but&M had like just

5:58

5 minutes, 58 seconds

four sacks in three games. They weren’t putting pressure on the opposing quarterback. So, this was a game for LSU’s offensive line to to get it right.

6:08

6 minutes, 8 seconds

And you put William Sat White in there at left guard to at least start. Bo Bordalon did get some snaps as well, but

6:15

6 minutes, 15 seconds

the fact that they were able to give Sam some protection against a defense that has been struggling in putting pressure

6:22

6 minutes, 22 seconds

on opposing quarterbacks, I think even with the hamstring or not, uh, I think you would have seen less of Sam running

6:29

6 minutes, 29 seconds

just because I think LSU’s offensive line was able to contain their front seven and keep the pressure off of Sam finally. Well, sure. They protected him

6:38

6 minutes, 38 seconds

a lot better than they did against Old Miss. And I I think it was a great practice for him to have the hamstring

6:46

6 minutes, 46 seconds

issue just to to make him stay in the pocket. So maybe now as the hamstring gets better, he’ll realize that

6:53

6 minutes, 53 seconds

sometimes it’s good to stay in the pocket a little longer, too. But he is a heck of a runner. So it it is still going to be a a deadly uh combo for

7:02

7 minutes, 2 seconds

opponents. But but yeah, he he he needed to learn to to stay in the pocket longer because a lot of his miss fires against

7:09

7 minutes, 9 seconds

Old Miss or I would say a few of them he wasn’t under pressure. You know, the bad pass to Zack Grace, he wasn’t under pressure and uh then then another one he

7:18

7 minutes, 18 seconds

missed a wide open receiver over the middle. He jumped for some reason, you know, I didn’t I didn’t get that. So, he needs to just kind of calm down and and

7:26

7 minutes, 26 seconds

I think maybe that worked. And if that hamstring gets better, maybe Lane can find somebody to hurt the other one.

7:31

7 minutes, 31 seconds

[laughter]

7:32

7 minutes, 32 seconds

I don’t know if you really want to do that. I don’t. But I am interested and we’ll we won’t know like what what are

7:40

7 minutes, 40 seconds

they looking for out of him? Now, we’re not going to get any availability reports this week because it’s a non-conference game. So, you’re not going to hear that he’s doubtful or what

7:48

7 minutes, 48 seconds

any of that stuff leading up to the game. And in fact, the media is done talking to Lane for the week. So, and players are off limits now for the rest

7:56

7 minutes, 56 seconds

of the week like they would say anything anyways. So, we’re not really [laughter] So, we’re not really going to know anything uh up until game time. Maybe it leaks out.

8:06

8 minutes, 6 seconds

Well, he might say something on his coach’s show, but I doubt it. Yeah, he hasn’t really said much. So, I’ll have to go to my spot in Alex Box and see [laughter] what’s going on.

8:15

8 minutes, 15 seconds

So, but I’m wondering like what what’s the threshold of having him play? like I

8:21

8 minutes, 21 seconds

is it if he’s 75% let’s go with it or is it I mean I wonder what they’re looking for to see

8:31

8 minutes, 31 seconds

who knows maybe he’s he’s feeling a heck of a lot better right now.

8:34

8 minutes, 34 seconds

Yeah. Yeah, maybe. So, uh I would I would not sit him for the whole game. I would I would like get him prepared for the game with as very little work on the

8:43

8 minutes, 43 seconds

leg as as possible just in the video room and and and staying uh you know uh toned up for the game and then just to

8:52

8 minutes, 52 seconds

go through the game and play a little bit kind of like a preseason game and then get uh Landon Clark and Huan Long Street in there is what I would do and

9:00

9 minutes

uh it it’s it’s a good it’s going to be a good game to to like uh Case had a good story today about trying to find the new Trey Dez as, you know, look at

9:09

9 minutes, 9 seconds

some other receivers. Uh, give some other guys a a chance. Uh, continue going with, um, the, uh, Hawaii receiver, uh, Jackson.

9:20

9 minutes, 20 seconds

Jackson Harris, who had such a good game, maybe get a longer look at Motherhed.

9:24

9 minutes, 24 seconds

Um, uh, and, uh, also the, uh, the receiver that was supposed to be a starter going, Jace Brown, Jace Brown,

9:32

9 minutes, 32 seconds

right? Uh, you know, get get a look at him. So it this game falls at a good time for him, I think.

9:38

9 minutes, 38 seconds

Case, so the two guys now moving forward that you’re counting on, obviously Winnie Watkins and now Jackson Harris has certainly elevated his game. Who

Chapter 4: Roster depth and receiver roles

9:46

9 minutes, 46 seconds

else out of this group could you don’t have Philip Wright? He’s out for the year. So out of this group, who else

9:53

9 minutes, 53 seconds

could potentially step up? I mean, your third starter all season has been Eugene Wilson the third or Trey Wilson out of Florida, the former five-star that, you

10:01

10 minutes, 1 second

know, when you watch him, you can you can tell the athleticism is there. The the fivestar pedigree is there. He’s struggled with drops kind of similar to

10:08

10 minutes, 8 seconds

Jackson Harris and Jace Brown in the early season. Um, but if you can get more out of him, I think really what it comes down to is it’s almost like Keifin

10:17

10 minutes, 17 seconds

and Weiss just get to choose who gets to go off each week with how they scheme up the offense. Tradez Green was a priority. Winnie Watkins has been a

10:24

10 minutes, 24 seconds

consistent priority. They’re using him in the slot, moving him uh across the defense, getting him in motion, getting mismatches that they like to get him the ball. Jackson Harris has been a feature in the offense now the last two weeks.

10:35

10 minutes, 35 seconds

The production wasn’t there as much uh against Miss. He he had seven targets.

10:39

10 minutes, 39 seconds

They were trying to get him the ball, but they just couldn’t connect and most of that was just missed throws from Levit. But I think if you’re trying to

10:46

10 minutes, 46 seconds

find another guy, I think McNiss, this is a good opportunity to get some guys some more reps. see if Jace Brown can kind of get out of the slump that he’s had to start the season. Malik Ellie was

10:55

10 minutes, 55 seconds

the starter in week one and then he’s kind of vanished since that first drop led to the interception on the opening drive. So, I I I really want to see some

11:02

11 minutes, 2 seconds

of these guys get more chances uh when they take the field against MC this weekend.

11:07

11 minutes, 7 seconds

I got a question for both of you. Um several years ago, he was a bigger body type, but LSU had a running back who was like third team and wasn’t playing much.

11:18

11 minutes, 18 seconds

Nick Sabam made him a wide receiver. He became an all-American and a great NFL pro. Josh Reid, you think you think

11:26

11 minutes, 26 seconds

Kaden Durham is worth a look at receiver since he’s not playing much at running back?

11:31

11 minutes, 31 seconds

I don’t know. I don’t know. I I don’t think so. I mean, I think if you were mentioning maybe Harlon Barry, um Well, he’s playing a little bit.

11:39

11 minutes, 39 seconds

Well, I know, but I’m just saying if Harlon Barry was still buried at the bottom of the depth chart, he would be a better receiver type. You think? cuz Kaden did catch a lot of

11:46

11 minutes, 46 seconds

passes as a running back his first two years. Yeah.

11:50

11 minutes, 50 seconds

But that doesn’t mean he’s a a receiver type. You know, some some guys, you know, like Eric Martin was another one who uh who moved from running back to

11:57

11 minutes, 57 seconds

wide receiver at LSU way back, but that was also a different body type than uh than Kaden. But that’s a talented guy

12:04

12 minutes, 4 seconds

who’s uh who’s not playing much. Uh and uh he can catch the ball. Case, what do you think?

12:11

12 minutes, 11 seconds

Well, Case had to step out for a second, but he’s he’s [laughter] Okay. Um but that that’s that’s what you would do in a game like McNiss if it goes like it should.

12:21

12 minutes, 21 seconds

Yeah. Um so yeah, I I would agree. Um and I don’t I don’t know if there’s anybody else. I I know you’re trying to

12:29

12 minutes, 29 seconds

get the ball to Zack Grace. The guy still hasn’t caught a pass yet in college football.

12:33

12 minutes, 33 seconds

Well, play played two seasons in Oregon and you’ve missed him wide open twice.

12:37

12 minutes, 37 seconds

Well, I don’t I don’t know if they if he if he was signed to to get him passes. I mean, he he’s kind of a blocker, but they really they really don’t have a and

12:46

12 minutes, 46 seconds

uh the other tight end has not really shown much either. He hasn’t Malachi, he hasn’t caught a lot of passes either at at pit or here. So, they’re kind of at a

12:55

12 minutes, 55 seconds

loss now at tight end. So, I I could see maybe moving somebody over there.

12:59

12 minutes, 59 seconds

Yeah. Well, I don’t know. What do you think, Kaden Durham as a receiver case?

13:02

13 minutes, 2 seconds

I don’t know. I don’t know what’s Kaden Durham’s future is right now.

13:06

13 minutes, 6 seconds

I don’t think they’re using him as a running back right now. I don’t I don’t see him using [laughter] him at receiver either. Well, but that’s that’s what I was saying though because there’s been other running like Josh Reed was a

13:14

13 minutes, 14 seconds

running back at LSU who wasn’t being used and he became a great uh wide receiver. I think Durham was a bigger guy.

13:21

13 minutes, 21 seconds

Durham’s build. Yeah, he’s he’s smaller and kind of more dense. You know, he’s lower center of gravity like like you’d want from a running back, but doesn’t really translate as well.

13:29

13 minutes, 29 seconds

He’s got the speed, that’s for sure.

13:31

13 minutes, 31 seconds

There’s no doubt about that. But it was nice to see Harlon Barry out there as a as a backup running back. And I thought, and maybe we got we’ll hear a little bit

13:39

13 minutes, 39 seconds

more from Lane Keifin coming up in the next segment of our show to talk about um you know, some of the things that he said, but I I thought what Lane had to

13:48

13 minutes, 48 seconds

say as far as Harlem moving past uh Stacy Gage is number two on the depth chart, I thought that was a great story

13:56

13 minutes, 56 seconds

about how well he played on special teams, how well he’s been practicing.

14:00

14 minutes

Harlem has been this kid at St. Martins. He was St.

14:06

14 minutes, 6 seconds

Martins’s football. Like St. Martins hasn’t been good in football at all. He comes there and he completely elevates

14:13

14 minutes, 13 seconds

that program to make them relevant. And he had any opportunity to go to another school in the Catholic League or anything like that. And he stayed at St.

14:22

14 minutes, 22 seconds

Martins’s. And I think this kid’s going to stick it out here at LSU as well because that’s his mindset. Let’s take a break. We’ll hear some uh from Lane

14:30

14 minutes, 30 seconds

Keifin when we come back here on Tiger Rack Radio. The East Baton [music] Rouge Parish Library believes that a thriving business community is good for us all.

Let’s go. We now return to Tiger Rag Radio.

15:11

15 minutes, 11 seconds

[music]

15:12

15 minutes, 12 seconds

Back here on Tiger Rag Radio. Jeff Polalmo along with Gwen Gilbo and Case Kishnik here with you. And we got it

15:20

15 minutes, 20 seconds

some sound here that we want to play back uh involving Lane Kein. Uh we were talking about Harlem Barry and uh let’s hear a little bit of what Lane had to

15:29

15 minutes, 29 seconds

say about Harlem being elevated to the number two spot at running back.

15:33

15 minutes, 33 seconds

I mean the competition’s always open. I told them today, look at Jackson Harris was the offensive player of the game. He didn’t start the first first game in the

15:40

15 minutes, 40 seconds

year. So you can pout and you can be on second team and feel sorry for yourself or you can work really hard and prove us

15:47

15 minutes, 47 seconds

wrong. And so that’s what we’re hoping with Harlem. He did good things. He’s got to block better. You know, it’s the game’s not just about carrying the ball.

15:55

15 minutes, 55 seconds

Just like at receiver, it’s not just about catching the ball. You know, there’s a lot going into it. So, really proud of how far Harlem came last week

16:02

16 minutes, 2 seconds

and how he sees the opportunity and excited about how far he can come.

16:06

16 minutes, 6 seconds

Yeah, I believe in the Pro Football focus grades, he has one of the lowest blocking grades out of the team. So, Dylan Jones is more of your complete

16:15

16 minutes, 15 seconds

back, a bigger back and a good blocker.

16:18

16 minutes, 18 seconds

And a good blocker. And so that’s that’s why he he’s got the nod. But when you see Harlem Barry run as opposed to Gage,

16:27

16 minutes, 27 seconds

he’s just got that that burst, that ability to when he does touch the ball, you feel like,

16:34

16 minutes, 34 seconds

and maybe it’s because I’ve I’ve seen him do it in high school so many times that he can he could take it a long way.

16:41

16 minutes, 41 seconds

And you never really thought that whenever they handed the ball off to Gage. Maybe you get four, five, six yards when with him carrying it, but

16:48

16 minutes, 48 seconds

Barry does give you that home run ability.

16:51

16 minutes, 51 seconds

Yeah. And I really like Dylan, too. He he gives you that burst right off, too.

16:56

16 minutes, 56 seconds

And he’s he’s he’s really physical, but it’s it’s it’s two good backs. Uh I tell you that. But I think Dylan’s definitely going to stay as the main guy.

17:03

17 minutes, 3 seconds

All right, let’s talk about some more of these injuries. Your thoughts on the Witw Weeks uh injury, Glenn?

Chapter 6: Managing injuries and schedule

17:09

17 minutes, 9 seconds

Yeah, man. I mean, it it seems like this is his third injury in in three seasons around the same area. The broken fibula

17:18

17 minutes, 18 seconds

is what he has now. That’s kind of between the uh uh the knee and the ankle uh next to the shin. So, uh it’s all all

17:26

17 minutes, 26 seconds

in the same area. It’s tough. He was having a great season like Lane Keifin said and and he was part of the uh you

17:34

17 minutes, 34 seconds

know the rebuild of the of the team. Uh so that’s tough. But um you know, Devon Keys came right in and made that stop on

17:42

17 minutes, 42 seconds

fourth and one right after LSU scored on fourth and one. But they’re they’re missing a lot with without weeks for sure. They’ll be

17:49

17 minutes, 49 seconds

better than they were last year without him though uh because of TJ Doy and and Devon Keys is is uh probably better than

17:56

17 minutes, 56 seconds

he was last year. You know, Devon only started five games last year. He played all 13, but he finished second in the SEC in in tackles.

18:05

18 minutes, 5 seconds

Yeah. So, he’s a he’s a I mean, that’s a really good guy to have uh behind weeks.

18:10

18 minutes, 10 seconds

And, you know, they lost their fourth linebacker, too, Charles Ross. He was lost for the season in that game. So, it it is amazing how many injuries they’ve had.

18:18

18 minutes, 18 seconds

Yeah, they certainly have had a lot of injuries. Lane Kein talked about the depth that uh is now a big concern.

18:24

18 minutes, 24 seconds

When you build a team now, it’s not like you were able to build for those you guys covering the teams here 10, 15 years ago. You can’t build the depth.

18:32

18 minutes, 32 seconds

spread out around the country and around the conference. So these injuries are more significant than they used to be because you don’t have the great players

18:41

18 minutes, 41 seconds

at the bottom of your roster that you used to be able to have when you could stockpile. So there’s a reason why people why I’ve said when people win now

18:49

18 minutes, 49 seconds

and do like what George has done in the last five years that that’s that’s so unique and you may not even see those

18:56

18 minutes, 56 seconds

runs again because you can’t stockpile like that. And so when you have bad years of luck, it’s going to be really challenging.

19:04

19 minutes, 4 seconds

Lane is really concerned about what lies ahead because, you know, there are more injuries to come. Unfortunately, there like there’s it’s just not like this is

19:13

19 minutes, 13 seconds

going to stop. Okay, you’ve had your injuries and now the [laughter] Well, it could I mean it could stop.

19:19

19 minutes, 19 seconds

Just because you’ve had some early doesn’t mean you’re going to continue.

19:23

19 minutes, 23 seconds

Maybe not to this extent, but there’s the possibility they could lose one or two more guys for a significant amount of time.

19:31

19 minutes, 31 seconds

Sure. And some of the teams that haven’t lost anyone yet could lose two or three as the season goes on. I mean, it’s it’s really a a roll of of the dice. Um but

19:40

19 minutes, 40 seconds

uh yeah, they’ve definitely had bad luck because really uh well they lost both number sevens, you know, Trade S Green and and Whit

19:48

19 minutes, 48 seconds

Weeks and then uh Deshawn Spears who, you know, they might have better DBs than him, but he kind of really fit

19:56

19 minutes, 56 seconds

the star great. Of course, they they do have good depth because then Bennfield really really fit that star well, too.

20:03

20 minutes, 3 seconds

And and we asked Lane if he’s going to play that star again. He said maybe not cuz that that might have been just for that game. But I I they got some

20:10

20 minutes, 10 seconds

options, man. They they they do I mean Jayce Thomas is not a starter. He’s he’s good. So uh but it would be good for them if they don’t have any more injuries.

20:19

20 minutes, 19 seconds

Are you tired of him complaining about the nineame SEC schedule?

20:23

20 minutes, 23 seconds

Uh well, in the in the context that he’s been complaining about it, yes. Because

20:30

20 minutes, 30 seconds

you know, he’s only played two SEC games. the nineame schedule doesn’t have anything to do with [laughter] his injuries. I I didn’t quite get that. And I wasn’t the only one who criticized it.

20:39

20 minutes, 39 seconds

No. Right. But I think what he’s looking at is that you’ve already taken what was a difficult eightgame grind plus a a power a school from a non-conference

20:48

20 minutes, 48 seconds

game against a power four school. Now you’ve added to it with the inability to stockpile as he just said your roster.

20:56

20 minutes, 56 seconds

Exactly. It’s just another reason why Greg Sanki is just not having a good couple of years.

21:01

21 minutes, 1 second

Right. I mean, he he made it more difficult for his teams to get in the playoffs by going to the nineame schedule.

21:07

21 minutes, 7 seconds

But television wise, look at the loaded schedule that you had. Now, this Saturday is horrible. This is a a bad week, but last Saturday, all those

21:15

21 minutes, 15 seconds

games, Texas, Tennessee, even Missouri, Mississippi State.

21:20

21 minutes, 20 seconds

What do you mean even Missouri? What are you talking about?

21:22

21 minutes, 22 seconds

I was saying Missouri, Mississippi State was a really good game. And you you had that schedule because you have more conference games.

21:30

21 minutes, 30 seconds

Sure. Sure. Well, and that’s I think that’s what’s driving Sanki. He doesn’t he doesn’t he doesn’t want to get rid of the meaningless SEC championship game

21:38

21 minutes, 38 seconds

because sounds like he’s going to have to because it sounds like everybody’s starting to move towards the 24 game 2014 playoff. So, we’ll get we’ll touch

21:47

21 minutes, 47 seconds

on that as well. But when we come back, Gordy Rush from the LSU Sports Radio Network, the sideline reporter. He’ll join us when we come back here on Tiger Radio.

Tiger Rag Radio is back.

Chapter 7: Guest interview with Gordy Rush

22:31

22 minutes, 31 seconds

All right, back here at Tiger Rag Radio, Jeff Polmo along with the editor for Tiger Rag magazine, Glenn Gilbo, and Case Kishnik. We bring in our first

22:39

22 minutes, 39 seconds

guest of the night. Haven’t had him on in a while. And it’s great he’s on our airwaves tonight. It is Gordy Rush, the head man over at Guaranty Broadcasting

22:48

22 minutes, 48 seconds

here in Baton Rouge and of course the sideline reporter on the LSU Sports Radio Network. Gordy, how you doing tonight? Hey guys, doing fine. I’m doing fine.

22:56

22 minutes, 56 seconds

Well, it’s great to have you on. Let me ask you on the defensive on the defensive side of the football. You’ve seen some great LSU defenses. I know

23:03

23 minutes, 3 seconds

it’s been a it’s been a while because the last few years uh it’s been improving under Blake Baker, but there were some bad, you know, defenses before

23:12

23 minutes, 12 seconds

that, but what just stands out to you about the way this unit plays even after the

23:19

23 minutes, 19 seconds

injuries to Deshawn Spears and now you got to make up for the loss of Whit Weekes and before that you you lost two defensive guys that you were counting on

23:28

23 minutes, 28 seconds

and back in spring football. But what really stands out to you when you watch them from the field level, Gordy?

23:34

23 minutes, 34 seconds

Yeah, two things. I think team speed. Uh I mean across the board. I mean they got 11 guys that can run for the their

23:41

23 minutes, 41 seconds

respective position. And then this is as deep I think as a defensive front that that they have had that they’re able to

23:48

23 minutes, 48 seconds

go to to some threes and and get some contributions there. And and I think that to expand on uh you know a little

23:56

23 minutes, 56 seconds

bit of both uh they really have some true edge rushers. I mean you talk about three or four guys. I think Lamar Brown will get there in time. So um that’s what jumps out at me.

24:08

24 minutes, 8 seconds

Yeah. And because of the speed, Gordy, uh what do you see Blake Baker doing differently, if he is doing anything

24:15

24 minutes, 15 seconds

differently? Well, I I think, you know, like we saw last week, um they’re doing a better job with athletic quarterbacks

24:22

24 minutes, 22 seconds

and and I think because they’re so um they’re so quick up front, he doesn’t have to sign send six or seven in kind

24:30

24 minutes, 30 seconds

of a, you know, a bust, you know, allout blitz where you either get home or or or you miss, right? And there’s so many

24:39

24 minutes, 39 seconds

times I think that he can do some simulated pressures and because he can get there with three and four and drop a fifth defender to be a spy. When you go

24:46

24 minutes, 46 seconds

back and look at the film against Marcel Reed, it’s it’s not that they went after him that much. They did go after him a little bit. It’s that so many times they

24:54

24 minutes, 54 seconds

were able to get him off his mark, make him move, and when he moved, you know, he’s thinking the run and he looks up

25:02

25 minutes, 2 seconds

and he’s got a guy at about seven yards in front of him that’s just waiting on him, that’s spying on him. And I I think that’s what he he’s been able to do.

25:08

25 minutes, 8 seconds

He’s been able to bring pressure without he’s been able to get pressure without really loading up numbers, if that makes sense.

25:15

25 minutes, 15 seconds

And and Deuce Gerald’s having a heck of a freshman season. Uh our producer Case Kishnik told me this morning that he is

25:23

25 minutes, 23 seconds

the first freshman to start the first four games a defensive tackle, a defensive lineman since uh Booger

25:30

25 minutes, 30 seconds

McFarland. What What do you think of Duce so far?

25:33

25 minutes, 33 seconds

He’s incredible. I mean, not only, yeah, he’s not the biggest guy. He reminds me of Drake Neas size-wise, but in terms of

25:40

25 minutes, 40 seconds

he’s just so, you know, fundamentally sound. I mean, that’s the difference when you you look at a kid, it’s coming from a top program in Georgia, and I’m

25:48

25 minutes, 48 seconds

trying to I mean, out of respect to this program, that that that he’s really fundamentally sound. Um, he’s so good

25:55

25 minutes, 55 seconds

with his hands and and then he’s so mature in the way that he plays. So many times you, you know, you get guys that are that big, they just dominate. They

26:03

26 minutes, 3 seconds

just run through people. Rarely do you get somebody that can can track up the field, get a pressure, and then and then come down where he came from. Kind of a

26:12

26 minutes, 12 seconds

retreat sort of move. And he just he has such a a high football IQ and understands the position at a young age. Will we see him on offense again?

26:20

26 minutes, 20 seconds

[laughter]

26:21

26 minutes, 21 seconds

Well, I you know, I’m I’ve been waiting to see they’re they’re going to have to come with another heavy package. I mean, they’ve gotten away with that quick snap. Now, you know, we we’ve seen the

26:30

26 minutes, 30 seconds

Dylan Jones play and now, you know, the Sam Levit pass to to Harris, that’s out.

26:35

26 minutes, 35 seconds

So, I have to come up [laughter] with something else in short yardage. Yeah.

26:39

26 minutes, 39 seconds

Gordy Duceeralds and some of the other guys up front have kind of left the secondary through four games of the season still a little untested and the the one time that they really did get

26:48

26 minutes, 48 seconds

tested against Old Miss, they kind of got burned. Did some of the uh the coverage against Miss alarm you at all?

26:54

26 minutes, 54 seconds

Well, this is my my take is they were so good in the first two games and and maybe the the other two offenses weren’t that good. However you want to, you

27:02

27 minutes, 2 seconds

know, they didn’t get tested and and to me, I thought they caught they were flatfooted playing zone against Old Miss. I I mean, you had guys in position

27:10

27 minutes, 10 seconds

that weren’t breaking on the football and it was like their first, you know, live fire. And and then I think they also, you know, going back to

27:18

27 minutes, 18 seconds

what I said, I think he’s doing a lot of zone blitzes. He’s he’s doing a little bit more zone than he played man because he’s so good up front. He doesn’t have to bring pressure and I think that’s an

27:25

27 minutes, 25 seconds

acquired taste and you have to learn to go manto man. That’s what Sam was still moving around a little bit after he tweaked his hamstring there.

27:35

27 minutes, 35 seconds

How healthy how healthy do you think he is? How and do you think he plays Saturday or just plays a little bit? I wouldn’t play him. Okay.

27:43

27 minutes, 43 seconds

There’s no reason [clears throat] to play him in my opinion. I I would sit him. Um, but but no, I yeah, I I have concerns about I I don’t I don’t know

27:51

27 minutes, 51 seconds

the severity of it, but watching him throw off of one leg, get severe enough that you’re going to sit him next week.

27:58

27 minutes, 58 seconds

And I I know that the technology cuz I’ve been down there in my old self when I pulled the hamstring and I can get healthy a little quicker and they can get you healthier a little quicker.

28:07

28 minutes, 7 seconds

Yeah.

28:07

28 minutes, 7 seconds

But but um I you know, I think it’s going to be something that’s going to be nagging. you know, hopefully he can get some rest in that open week, but um it’s

28:16

28 minutes, 16 seconds

it’s something I think you should Well, the other thing I think that’s part of this too, Gordy, we got some rain moving in and I know they cover the

28:24

28 minutes, 24 seconds

field, but still I don’t think you want him playing out there on a slippery track.

28:29

28 minutes, 29 seconds

No, I don’t I don’t want him a slippery track at all. And there’s no reason to play him. And I I mean I look you you’ve got you know I go back to I don’t know

28:37

28 minutes, 37 seconds

if if I cut out or not but but um I think this hamstring is going to be an issue at least till you get to the open week. Let’s call it what it is, right?

28:45

28 minutes, 45 seconds

And so I I’m I’m going to try and get him to the open week. That being said, I want to see more Landon Clark. I want to see him throw the football. I want to

28:52

28 minutes, 52 seconds

see Long Street. Long Street was the the backup until, you know, the the uh I’m one of the few human beans that got a chance to see the walkthrough the week

29:00

29 minutes

before. Yeah. because he was so detailed. He wanted to to to go through a halftime interview and we did that.

29:05

29 minutes, 5 seconds

That’s the first time in my career I’ve ever done [laughter] that.

29:07

29 minutes, 7 seconds

You probably asked your best questions that day, too. That was probably I mean, we went through everything. We we we went through where I was going to be and he wanted me to walk with him and

29:15

29 minutes, 15 seconds

he looked at me, he said, “And do you have a question?” I was like, “Tonight?” He’s like, “It’s a game.” I was like, “Okay, here’s my question. [laughter] 55 to 10.” At that point, I was like,

29:23

29 minutes, 23 seconds

“This guy coached for with Nick Sabin. I get it.” Yeah. [laughter] Good.

29:27

29 minutes, 27 seconds

But Landon Clark was a third string quarterback. He was incredible. I mean, he was running for his life and granted, you know, they got crushed, but he made

29:34

29 minutes, 34 seconds

plays. They scored, I think, two touchdowns. Yeah. Against the ones in the course of it, and you’re like, “Okay, this guy, this guy’s got a little swagger, too.” I I I think you want to

29:43

29 minutes, 43 seconds

see both Saturday night. To me, that’s what I’m looking forward the most to seeing both of these guys playing football.

29:49

29 minutes, 49 seconds

Strong tat game, too, for uh Landon Clark for those that are into that kind of thing, too. Very good on [laughter] Very good on the Very good on the

29:58

29 minutes, 58 seconds

tattoos. Speaking of offense, how about the offensive line? Um, I was talking about it in the first segment. A&M came into this game as a team that was

30:06

30 minutes, 6 seconds

struggling to create negative plays. Uh, only four sacks, I believe, going into the LSU game. How much was it that&m’s

30:15

30 minutes, 15 seconds

front sevens just not as good as it was last year? Or did the offensive line improved? Was William Satwite um, did

30:22

30 minutes, 22 seconds

they get what they wanted out of that situation with starting him ahead of Bo Bordilon? I I think a little bit of both, you know, and I still I mean after

30:31

30 minutes, 31 seconds

Miss gave up 52, I I don’t think Miss is an elite defense. They’re certainly better up front in some of it. I think a little bit of both. It was better out of

30:38

30 minutes, 38 seconds

the offensive line and I don’t think Texas A&M obviously don’t have the guys that they had a year ago, but for me

30:45

30 minutes, 45 seconds

it’s Sam guys. I it just when see it up to see Levit and and to see him in that first half against Old Miss and and

30:53

30 minutes, 53 seconds

watching Lane and everybody on the sideline like calm down, calm down. I if he will just slow down. Yeah.

31:00

31 minutes

And play in the confines of this offense and run the plays. I mean, there were there were receivers when you see the wide cut, there were receivers running open down the field against Old Miss.

31:10

31 minutes, 10 seconds

And I made the comment on the broadcast.

31:11

31 minutes, 11 seconds

If it took his hamstring and an injury to slow him down to get him to play within this offense, maybe he’s better playing hurt and jokingly, but uh you

31:20

31 minutes, 20 seconds

know, I think that’s more to do with it than anything else. when you you throw the football and you stretch a defense vertically, you’re going to back all

31:28

31 minutes, 28 seconds

those people up and I I think you’re you’re going to give yourself a better chance to have numbers and that when when you throw the ball like that, it opens up the run game. And we saw Jones

31:36

31 minutes, 36 seconds

starting to open a little bit and they’ve got to play you honest. So to me, yeah, a little bit of both, but really I think it’s about Sam slowing down and just executing the offense.

31:46

31 minutes, 46 seconds

Sam, I think, had some of the cleanest pockets he’s seen all season against&m.

31:50

31 minutes, 50 seconds

And and when he had that clean pocket, he was able to stand in and just deliver some beautiful balls like you saw. And with that, Jackson Harris just exploded.

31:58

31 minutes, 58 seconds

163 yards, set a new career high. Uh, and it wasn’t just that he was open or that Sam was making incredible throws.

32:04

32 minutes, 4 seconds

He was also going in with some contested catches. That that one in the end zone was was pretty spectacular. Do you think that this was just a a one-off performance from Jackson Harris or is is

32:12

32 minutes, 12 seconds

there a guy out there outside from Hawaii?

32:15

32 minutes, 15 seconds

No. No. I I think he’s a guy and I think some guys I I don’t think there’s an A a receiver in this group. I think there are a lot of B’s and I mean Lane came

32:23

32 minutes, 23 seconds

out basically and said that’s sort of their roster management thought. He’d rather have six or seven B’s. And and so what I like about Harris is that his size. He’s out there on the edge.

32:33

32 minutes, 33 seconds

Obviously he played for Timmy Chang at Hawaii. you know, they’re doing nothing but throwing the ball out there on the island. So, he’s gotten a lot of reps for that. I I think it was about just

32:42

32 minutes, 42 seconds

getting in sync with Levit, which comes back to, you know, a little bit of Levit and winning the the battles in, you know, you got to win the 50/50 battles.

32:51

32 minutes, 51 seconds

He did didn’t win one of those at Old Miss. Thankfully, Watkins the next play got that touchdown and just a little bit more consistent with that. But with Tradez out, I think you’re going to see

33:00

33 minutes

more 10 personnel, which is four wide receivers. It does a couple things. It helps out the offensive line. It takes a a a defender out of the box, which gives

33:09

33 minutes, 9 seconds

you, you know, when Sam’s healthy, whoever the quarterback is, it helps you out and it puts your best personnel groupings out there. That being said, he’s going to get some man-to-man matchups that he can take advantage of.

33:20

33 minutes, 20 seconds

And then when they do play zone, his size in the middle of a football field, he’s a big target. And and so he’s not trade, but he’s big enough to make a difference.

33:28

33 minutes, 28 seconds

Talking to Gordy Rush, GM and vice president of Guarantee Media here on Tiger Radio. Gordy, you get you get to see more of Lane Keifin uh than than a

33:37

33 minutes, 37 seconds

lot of us. What What’s it been like working with him so far this season and and uh on on game day and on the sideline and so forth? What what’s what do you think his personality?

33:47

33 minutes, 47 seconds

Well, he’s been great to work with and and you know, I go back to what I I told you about the that walkth through. I mean, that that showed me a lot right about the walkthrough usually and Glenn,

33:56

33 minutes, 56 seconds

we’ve been around a while. You know, it’s one hour and yes, the the scout team dresses up as Clemson and and usually you do substitutions, but nobody

34:04

34 minutes, 4 seconds

really practices. I mean, I I asked them what time you need to be there and they said, “The team walked down the hill at 4:30.” I was like, “What?” And it

34:11

34 minutes, 11 seconds

[laughter] was a full football game. And I asked somebody, I said, “How long are you going to be there?” I said, “Last year Old Miss won this game 79 to

34:18

34 minutes, 18 seconds

nothing.” And so we were there till 9:30. And it’s the attention to detail.

34:23

34 minutes, 23 seconds

And I think with all of the, you know, the social media and the, you know, all the stuff and the personality and what have you, to see the Nick Sabin effect,

34:32

34 minutes, 32 seconds

right, and the attention to detail, I I mean, he he he’s got all that from Nick and almost a little obsessive on he’s

34:40

34 minutes, 40 seconds

his pursuit of doing everything possible to win a football game. And I’ve enjoyed that.

34:45

34 minutes, 45 seconds

Yeah. No, and I think a lot of fans have have too, Gordy. Uh, should be a fun season. We’ll have to get you back on uh later on. and we appreciate your time tonight.

34:54

34 minutes, 54 seconds

Okay, guys, take care. Thanks for having me.

34:55

34 minutes, 55 seconds

All right, Gordy Rush of the LC Sports Radio Network and Guarantee Broadcasting. We’ll take a break. Uh, more coming up here on Tiger Rag Radio.

35:03

35 minutes, 3 seconds

We’re back to Tiger Rag Radio.

Chapter 8: Looking ahead to McNeese

35:08

35 minutes, 8 seconds

Back here on Tiger Rag Radio, Jeff Palmo along with Glen Gilbo and Case Kishnik.

35:13

35 minutes, 13 seconds

So, you just heard from Gordy Rush. He said uh he does not think Sam Levit will should play on Saturday. I’m in that camp, too. I don’t I don’t understand

35:21

35 minutes, 21 seconds

the reason to do it. Uh I know you might want to say, “Hey, keep him in rhythm.” I think if he’s if he’s 80 90% healthy,

35:29

35 minutes, 29 seconds

I think he’s going to be out there just to kind of keep that rhythm. I just I I have that sense, but we’ll see. And and

35:36

35 minutes, 36 seconds

like I mentioned to Gordy, um there is rain moving in. It’s supposed to rain for multiple days. It’s supposed to be a

35:43

35 minutes, 43 seconds

couple of inches of rain. I don’t think a guy with a a bad hammy that you want him uh playing on that kind of surface.

35:52

35 minutes, 52 seconds

Here’s what Lane Kein had to say on Monday about uh sitting his starters for the MC game.

35:58

35 minutes, 58 seconds

Yeah, I mean I’ve been going through that all day yesterday. I don’t know where going to end up on that, but like I said, we got seven conference games to

36:07

36 minutes, 7 seconds

go. What? Four more road conference games. Whatever. Probably five. Five of the seven are probably ranked. So yeah,

36:15

36 minutes, 15 seconds

I mean you got to look at things differently I feel like because of what’s happened.

36:21

36 minutes, 21 seconds

So who would sit I mean Levit I don’t think you would want to play Dylan Jones. I mean who on defense who do you not want to play? You want to don’t you can’t not have like Uman Mowen get hurt.

36:31

36 minutes, 31 seconds

TJ Dodory I think is now key. Can’t have him get hurt. Ty Bennfield. [laughter] I mean some of these guys got to play a little bit right. Well, I think the guys

36:40

36 minutes, 40 seconds

that are healthy, um, 100% healthy, because a lot of guys have nicks and bruises we might not even hear about.

36:46

36 minutes, 46 seconds

Uh, but you play them at least for a quarter or so, see what the score is, and then kind of get them out. But I think, um, what Lane’s Lane said that

36:55

36 minutes, 55 seconds

the the number of injuries he’s had has just freaked him out. [laughter] He said that he said that on Monday, and I think that’s what it’s that’s what

37:02

37 minutes, 2 seconds

it’s about as as uh, as much as anything. He um he didn’t seem overly concerned with with Sam. No.

37:11

37 minutes, 11 seconds

And he did uh volunteer it, which surprised me. But um I do think it’s something like we’ve said, you know, that’s a nagging thing that you got to

37:20

37 minutes, 20 seconds

be real careful with. So it would make a lot of sense not to only not play him Saturday, but hardly practice him um

37:27

37 minutes, 27 seconds

this week and then just get to the uh open week. But um you know I I think um you know most of the rest of the team

37:36

37 minutes, 36 seconds

just just kind of get them out uh uh you know maybe late second quarter or early third quarter.

37:41

37 minutes, 41 seconds

Yeah. We’ll see. We’ll see how it all shakes out. Let’s take another break. Our final break of hour number one.

37:46

37 minutes, 46 seconds

Coming up a little bit later on. Zach Ngi. He will join us from GO247. And then we’ll also hear from Jacqu Duce as

37:53

37 minutes, 53 seconds

well WFBTV sports director. If you miss any of the show, you can always catch previous shows anywhere you get your podcast or the show gets uploaded to

38:02

38 minutes, 2 seconds

YouTube as well. Uh, so we got a lot more to get through here tonight on Tiger Rag Radio. This is Tiger Rag Radio.

38:10

38 minutes, 10 seconds

Traffic and Nick had never seen it.

38:12

38 minutes, 12 seconds

Back here on Tiger Rag Radio, Jeff Polo along with Case Kishnik and Glenn Gilbo and Zach Ngi will join us from Go247

38:20

38 minutes, 20 seconds

coming up in the next segment. We had Gordy Rush on earlier and he talked about the attention to detail that we’ve seen so far from Lane Keifin and Gordy

38:29

38 minutes, 29 seconds

saying very reminiscent to Nick Sabin and his attention to detail which made him such a great coach. And you’re

38:37

38 minutes, 37 seconds

seeing those same kind of qualities too, right Glenn?

38:40

38 minutes, 40 seconds

Yeah. Well, they asked Lane on his uh coach’s show last week what he thinks of Door Dash, and he said he says he’s never used it cuz he just eats in the

38:49

38 minutes, 49 seconds

football facility cuz they got a great uh cafeteria there. And it reminded me of of Sabin when he was LSU’s coach.

38:56

38 minutes, 56 seconds

Somebody asked him about restaurants in Baton Rouge and we were doing the radio show at Superior Grill and he he mentioned Superior Grill. [laughter] He

39:04

39 minutes, 4 seconds

didn’t know any other ones cuz he just eats at home all the time. And uh and Lane also mentioned the week of the Old Miss game that going to the uh radio

39:13

39 minutes, 13 seconds

show over at u the pickle ball place um what’s the name of where they have they show the u the court and court the table court the table sorry court the table.

39:23

39 minutes, 23 seconds

It was the first time that he was out of the office uh that week, you know, and and uh it it also reminded me of one

39:31

39 minutes, 31 seconds

time Nick was having a meeting with Skip and some of the other coaches and all the other coaches were complaining about the traffic and Nick’s like, “What traffic?” And and [laughter] Skip’s

39:40

39 minutes, 40 seconds

like, “Well, yeah, you you get to the office at dawn and you don’t leave until Highland Road there and back. I mean, it’s not that bad.”

39:48

39 minutes, 48 seconds

He’s he [laughter] was he’s never in the car during those those peak hours. So yeah, I think Nick and Lane have have very similar work ethics.

39:55

39 minutes, 55 seconds

Yeah. No, no. And you can stay in that football there’s once you get it’s like a casino. Yeah. I mean there there’s no reason to leave because they feed you.

40:04

40 minutes, 4 seconds

Um you know they they have catering every day and now of course you have the I don’t want to call it a cafeteria.

40:10

40 minutes, 10 seconds

It’s a heck of a lot more than a cafeteria but where the players now eat in the football office or in the football um operations. So there’s Yeah. And you can go jog.

40:19

40 minutes, 19 seconds

Yeah.

40:19

40 minutes, 19 seconds

Right there on the levey. You can go jog. I saw Coach Weiss was coming in from a jog on Tuesday. You know, Coach O used to run up and down the levy. So,

40:27

40 minutes, 27 seconds

and I keep hearing Coach O in the offices. So, he hasn’t been on the sidelines.

40:32

40 minutes, 32 seconds

No, he hasn’t. He hasn’t, but I’m hearing he’s doing better. Hopefully, he’ll be on the sidelines soon.

40:37

40 minutes, 37 seconds

Wow. Yeah, that’s uh that’s a very uh interesting what happened with him. I mean, and Lane was very serious about it when he talked about it last week, I

40:45

40 minutes, 45 seconds

think it was, right? Or it was before the Old Miss game couple weeks ago. It was before the Old Miss game. And so it sounded like I want to say it was touch and go, but the way he put it was yeah,

40:53

40 minutes, 53 seconds

it was a little serious there for a second. So, all right, but uh yeah, no doubt about it. Lane is dialed in and

41:00

41 minutes

we’ll see what they end up doing against McNiss on Saturday night. The uh the Cowboys um come into this game. Jake

41:08

41 minutes, 8 seconds

Strong is their quarterback. He started the year as their starting quarterback and then Devin Lip then he got hurt and then Devin Lipold came in and now he’s

41:18

41 minutes, 18 seconds

hurt. So, they go back to Jake Strong, but Matt Vitor is their head coach. He’s in his second season there, and they’re

41:25

41 minutes, 25 seconds

kind of in the middle of the pack there in the Southland Conference. Uh, Stephen F. Austin’s the best team in that league, and Southeastern’s really good,

41:32

41 minutes, 32 seconds

but MC is trying to get to where they’re at, and they’re just not quite there yet. And there’s no point spread on the game.

41:39

41 minutes, 39 seconds

I did read something that if they did have one, it would probably be in the 50s.

41:43

41 minutes, 43 seconds

Yeah. But in the future, Glenn, a lot of these games, especially now that we’re moving up the season a week and everybody’s trying to stay away from

41:50

41 minutes, 50 seconds

these high-profile season opening matchups, a lot of these games, like next year LSU opens against Northwestern

41:57

41 minutes, 57 seconds

State. A lot of these games against the FCS school, FCS schools are going to be in week one. And this year, this game,

42:05

42 minutes, 5 seconds

this particular McNiss game, you it could not have come at a better time considering all the injuries they’ve had going through that tough four game

42:13

42 minutes, 13 seconds

slight that they just went through. And you got a very interesting three games coming up before you get to the buy.

42:19

42 minutes, 19 seconds

This game really it it fits perfectly in the in the schedule. It gives them a bit of a breather and they don’t have to push themselves too hard in this game

42:28

42 minutes, 28 seconds

and then get ready for what should be a tough road trip to Lexington next Saturday. Oh, I would say so. Yeah, for sure.

42:34

42 minutes, 34 seconds

Considering how banged up uh they’ve been and and with uh with with Sam uh definitely good good time to uh get some time off.

42:44

42 minutes, 44 seconds

Yep. All right, let’s take our top of the hour break. When we come back, Zack Ngi from 247 Sports. We’ll talk a little recruiting with him. will also talk
