Jake Brown’s Breakthrough Season Continues As He Is Named To Golden Spikes Award Watch List

LSU junior outfielder Jake Brown of Sulphur was named to the midseason watch list on Thursday for the Golden Spikes award that goes to the nation’s best college baseball player.

The list features 45 of the nation’s top college players. Previous winners from LSU were pitcher Ben McDonald in 1989 and outfielder Dylan Crews in 2023.

Brown is hitting a team-high .356 this season and also leads the team with 11 home runs, 39 RBIs, 36 runs scored and a .695 slugging percentage. He also has seven doubles and eight steals in nine attempts. Brown tied the LSU record for a game with three homers on March 6 against Sacramento State and had a career-best six RBIs against Vanderbilt on March 15.

On Feb. 17, he was named to the Baseball America Team of the Week four games into the season after hitting .529 (9-for-17) with four home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs and seven runs.

The semifinalists for the award will be named on May 14. The winner will be announced on June 29.
