No. 1 LSU ended its losing streak at one game by overtaking Dartmouth, 5-2, in front of 11,422 at Alex Box Stadium on Friday night.
The Tigers (9-1) did not take the lead until Derek Curiel hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth for a 3-2 advantage. After one out, Brayden Simpson walked off Trey Sejnoha and reached third on Trent Caraway’s single, bringing up Curiel, who fought off a stomach issue to stay in the lineup.
LSU, which lost 7-6 to McNeese State on Tuesday, made it 4-2 in the seventh on an RBI ground out to third by Mason Braun, scoring Steven Milam from third. Milam reached to lead off on an error in right field, got to second on a wild pitch by Mac Burke and made it to third on Cade Arrambide’s ground out to second base.
LSU increased that to 5-2 in the eighth on an RBI double by Jake Brown that scored Curiel, who had singled.
Dartmouth (1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning off LSU starter Casan Evans on an RBI single by Sam Andersen. Stefan DiCorrado’s RBI double in the third put Dartmouth up 2-0. LSU cut it to 2-1 in the fourth when Braun walked, reached second and third on wild pitches by Dartmouth starter Izzy Parksy and scored on Trent Caraway’s sacrifice bunt.
Evans struck out 10 in five and a third innings and allowed only two hits, but he walked three and let go of four wild pitches. He three 88 pitches with 57 for strikes.
LSU closer, long reliever, middle reliever, starter Casan Evans also wanted to bat and play shortstop last season. And Jay Johnson let him try it.https://t.co/GTd4UJVe3C

“I thought he performed great,” LSU coach Jay Johnson said of Evans. “He kept us in the game.”
Relief ace Gavin Guidry took over for Evans with one out and a runner on second in the sixth inning. He struck out his first batter than got a foul fly ball to right field to end the inning. Guidry (3-0) went on to finish the game on a one-hitter and got the win, striking out five in three and two-thirds innings and not allowing any runs or walks over 50 pitches with 35 strikes. He has struck out 16 in nine innings on the season with zero walks.
“He’s a great competitor,” Johnson said. “Those two guys, Casan and Gavin, I trust with my life in terms of their competitive nature. You run those two guys out on a Friday night, and we’re going to win a lot.”
The Tigers host Northeastern (1-5) at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Box. Northeastern beat Grambling, 4-1, Friday afternoon at the Box.
