LSU safety Ty Benefield has emerged as a star in the LSU secondary in his first season as a Tiger since transferring from Boise State in the offseason. His length, physicality and versatility gave LSU a seamless substitute at the STAR position when Dashawn Spears was sidelined for the season, and he has racked up 33 tackles and two sacks in his new roles closer to the line of scrimmage. No. 15 LSU (6-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) will again call upon his speed and tackling ability as they work to contain the explosive offense of No. 9 Alabama (6-2, 4-2, SEC) on Saturday (2:30 p.m., ABC).

Benefield gave some insight on the LSU defense and how it is preparing to face the Crimson Tide after practice on Tuesday.
