The state’s top-ranked player in the Class of 2024 is ready to announce his commitment on the same day his team kicks off the season.

Acadiana, which hosts Lafayette Christian Academy on Sept. 1, will also host the announcement of five-star defensive tackle Dominick McKinley earlier that day. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound McKinley will choose from LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, Texas A&M and Ohio State.

“I think I’m moving to the finish line more and more,” McKinley told On3’s Sam Spiegelman. “I have an idea, and I might surprise some people.”

LSU’s landed commitments from eight of the state’s top 10 players with McKinley and John Ehret’s Wardell Mack the lone exceptions.

McKinley made official visits in June to Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M and attended LSU’s ‘Bayou Splash’ in July to close out the contact recruiting period. The Tigers have also offered a scholarship to his younger brother, sophomore defensive end Darryus McKinley.

McKinley’s the No. 23 overall player according to On3 and No. 31 per 247Sports. He’s also ranked No. 5 defensive lineman per On3s and has accepted an invitation to play in the 2024 Under Armour All-American Game.

He became a full-time starter in 2022 and recorded 90 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 12 sacks, earning honorable mention Class 5A All-State honors.
