NFL Draft Expert, WWL Radio Veteran Mike Detillier Passes Away At Age 65

A familiar, Cajun-accented voice of LSU and New Orleans Saints football and the NFL Draft on WWL Radio for decades, Mike Detillier of Raceland, passed away Sunday at age 65 after a brief bout with pancreatic cancer, WWL Radio announced.

Detillier loved talking Tigers, the Saints and the draft on WWL or as a guest on stations across the country or with fellow reporters at the Tiger Stadium or Superdome press boxes or at other events. The Raceland native, a graduate of Central Lafourche High in Raceland in 1979, was friends since boyhood with former LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron, who graduated from South Lafourche High in Cut Off in ’79, and former Saints quarterback and WWL Radio legend Bobby Hebert, who graduated from South Lafourche in 1978.

A frequent guest on Tiger Rag Radio, Detillier was a well-sourced expert on LSU football.

Detillier published his M&D NFL Draft Report from 1983 until only recently and was a constant guest on radio shows throughout the country leading up to the draft.

“The New Orleans Saints organization is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of WWL Radio host Mike Detillier,” a release by the Saints organization said Sunday. “A proud son of Louisiana, Mike was widely respected as a gifted football analyst and a trusted guide through the NFL Draft. Beyond his incredible contributions to the game, he was above all a true gentleman and dedicated family man. Saints game days at the Superdome, training camp and press conferences simply will not be the same without his presence.”

Detillier also wrote for various newspapers throughout his career, including USA Today Louisiana.
