Running back Brennen Lacey, a three-star recruit in the class of 2027, announced via X on Thursday that he would be withdrawing his verbal commitment from LSU. Lacey committed to the Tigers in June after an official visit to Baton Rouge.

Lacey addressed LSU running back coach Kevin Smith and the rest of the coaching staff in his post.

“I want to begin by thanking you and the entire coaching staff at LSU for believing in me and giving me the incredible opportunity to play football at the next level. I am truly grateful for the time, energy and relationship we have built throughout my recruitment process,” He began.

“After a lot of thought, prayers, and deep conversations with my family, I have decided to withdraw my verbal commitment to LSU and reopen my recruitment,” Lacey wrote.

247Sports.com ranks the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Frisco, Texas, product as the No. 29 running back in the class and No. 61 recruit in Texas. The composite rankings list him as the No. 505 overall recruit, No. 33 running back and No. 62 Texas prospect.

LSU still holds commitments from two four-star running backs in the class of 2027. David Segarra (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) of Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina, is ranked as the No. 133 overall recruit and No. 6 back nationally, and Franklin Parish product Trey Martin (5-10, 202) is No. 220 overall, No. 13 at his position and No. 8 in Louisiana. The Tigers’ class of 15 commits ranks No. 11 in the nation.
