LSU Freshman Golfer Raegan Denton’s 3-Under 69 Paces Tigers At Red Sky Classic

WOLCOTT, Colorado – Australian freshman Raegan Denton shot a 3-under par round of 69 to lead the LSU women’s golf team into ninth place on the first day of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic on the Fazio Course at the Red Sky Country Club.

Denton had three birdies and an eagle two on the par 4, 275-yard third hole to highlight her round. Denton is in the top 10 after 18 holes in a tie for ninth.

Overall, the Tigers shot a round of 2-under 286 for ninth in the three-day, 54-hole tournament. USC leads the tournament with a 22-under 266, 11 shots ahead of Miami at 11-under 277. Texas A&M is one more shot back in third at 10-under 278.

The second round is set for an 11 a.m. Baton Rouge time on Tuesday. Live scoring is at Golfstat.com. 

LSU had a solid overall round with sophomore Ryleigh Knaub posting four birdies for a 2-under 70 with junior Rocio Tejedo having three birdies in a 1-over round of 73. Freshman Victoria Kristensen started for the first time for the Tigers and had had three birdies in a 2-over 74. Sophomore Lucia Iraola, playing as an individual, had three birdies in a 2-under score of 70

Knaub and Iraola are tied for 17th in the individual competition, which is led by USC’s Jasmine Koo and Kaili Xiao each at 7-under 65 and USC’s Kylie Chong in third at 6-under 66. 

The 20 teams and 108 players averaged 73.39 over the par 72, 6,383-yard course. LSU was third in the field on par 3s at 2.75 and tied for ninth in birdies with 15. 

Both Knaub and Denton are tied for third on the par 3 holes at 2.50. Denton was tied for ninth on the par four holes at 3.90. Her eagle was one of nine overall in the first round.
