Danny Etling is a good student.

LSU’s senior quarterback earned a major postseason award on Wednesday, when the SEC named him the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

He joins former Tiger offensive lineman Rudy Niswanger as the only LSU players to earn the award, now in its 15th year. In his final year of eligibility, Etling threw for 2,234 yards and completed 60.3 percent of his passes, with 14 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Etling ranks second all-time in SEC history in interception-to-attempt ratio (seven in 511 attempts), ahead of Tim Tebow and trailing only A.J. McCarron.

A 3.74 graduate in Mass Communications, Etling also serves as the Vice-Chair of the SEC Football Leadership Council and was the Tigers’ nominee for the 2017 NABC Good Works Team.
