LSU starting senior linebacker and captain Whit Weeks remained doubtful on Thursday night for Saturday’s game against Alabama as he tries to come back from a broken fibula (lower leg) suffered against Texas A&M on Sept. 26 that required surgery.
Backup defensive tackle Stephiylan Green, a junior transfer from Clemson, was added to the Tigers’ injury report via the Southeastern Conference office’s availability report released on Thursday. He was not on the first league report on Wednesday. Green has 14 tackles in eight games this season with 3.5 for losses, including 1.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry.
The No. 14 Tigers (6-2, 3-2 SEC) host No. 5 Alabama (6-2, 4-2 SEC) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC.
Weeks’ brother Zach Weeks, a freshman linebacker, remained questionable for the game.
The five starters Alabama listed as questionable on its Wednesday injury report remained at that status on Thursday – center Racin Delgatty (knee), wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams (knee), offensive guard William Sanders (ankle), cornerback Zabien Brown (lower leg) and defensive lineman Terrance Green (ankle).
LSU coach Lane Kiffin expects Coleman-Williams to play. The Tide’s deep threat has 23 catches on the season for 415 yards and four touchdowns.
“I bet Ryan will be back,” Kiffin said. “This is credit to Alabama’s trainer, Jeff Allen. It’s unbelievable how quickly some of their players come back after surgery.”
Kiffin worked with Allen when Kiffin was Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2014-16.
Coleman-Williams suffered a meniscus (cartilage) injury in his knee in the loss to Georgia on October 10 and had arthroscopic surgery soon after.
Delgatty, Coleman-Williams and Green have missed Alabama’s last two games. Brown did not play in Alabama’s last game against Texas A&M, and Sanders was hurt in the win over A&M.
Backup running backs EJ Crowell (lower leg) and AK Dear (ankle) remained questionable. Crowell, a true freshman, has not started a game this season, but he has played in seven games and has a 6.8-yard-per-carry average. He has rushed 32 times for 216 yards with four touchdowns while catching three passes for 18 yards.
Junior Daniel Hill is Alabama’s starting running back and has 332 yards on 71 carries with four touchdowns. True freshman Trae’shawn Brown is the second back with 339 yards on 64 carries and five touchdowns and has started one game.
