LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and defensive end Jordan Ross earned SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for their performances in the Tigers’ 38-17 win at Auburn on Saturday.
Leavitt set a new career high with 387 passing yards by completing 32-of-45 attempts. The redshirt junior threw three passing touchdowns and ran eight times for 54 yards and another score. His 71.1% completion percentage against the Tigers was his fifth straight game with a mark higher than 70%, and after throwing an interception in each of his first six games, he gave up zero turnovers for a second straight week.
It is the fifth time in his career and third time this season that Leavitt has thrown for over 300 passing yards in a game. The win was his sixth-ever game accounting for four touchdowns. His 32 completions were also a career best, and he joined Joe Burrow (2019) as the only players in LSU history with back-to-back 30-completion games.
Ross recorded four tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks as LSU racked up seven total sacks against Auburn. It was the junior’s first career game with two sacks and his second straight week with more than one sack after recording 1.5 against Mississippi State. He has nor totaled five sacks this season.
