Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will be out for the No. 16 Bulldogs’ (4-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) 11 a.m. kickoff against No. 22 LSU (4-2, 1-2 SEC). The sophomore is dealing with a believed turf toe injury and was downgraded to out on the final SEC Availability Report.
Taylor injured his foot in a 31-24 win over Missouri on Sept. 27. He played through the injury in that game and again the following week in a loss to Alabama. He exited in the fourth quarter of the game against the Tide and returned to the sideline wearing a walking boot.
There was optimism he could recover during the Mississippi State bye week, but he was listed as questionable on the first two SEC Availability Reports for the trip to Baton Rouge and was downgraded to doubtful on the Friday report. Bulldogs starting running back Fluff Bothwell followed the same path on the conference injury reports as he manages a reported left ankle injury. He is also listed as out on the SEC Game-Time Availability Report.
Taylor has completed 102 of 154 passes for 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing 43 times for 159 yards and a touchdown through five games this season. Instead of the electric former four-star, Mississippi State will likely turn to former walk-on redshirt freshman quarterback Parker “Billy” Puckett. Former Vanderbilt, LSU and Appalachian State redshirt senior AJ Swann and former Florida redshirt junior quarterback Jaden Rashada, who previously played at Arizona State and Sacramento State round out the Bulldogs’ quarterback room.
Former LSU offensive lineman DJ Chester is listed as a game-time decision. The redshirt junior has been the starter at left guard in his first season in Starkville, Mississippi. He was listed as probable on the Friday report. LSU linebacker Tylen Singleton was listed as doubtful on Friday and was downgraded to out.
