The Atlanta Dream could not have dreamt of a better result from its trade with Chicago for former LSU national champion forward Angel Reese after last season.
“Sat at home the last two years and watched it,” Reese said after not making the WNBA playoffs in her first two seasons in the league with the Chicago Sky – one of the worst teams in the WNBA as it was 13-27 in 2024 and 10-34 last year.
Exactly 364 days later, Reese is there after helping Atlanta reach the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013 as she scored 22 points with nine rebounds in the Dream’s 85-83 win over the New York Liberty on Friday night in New York to complete a three-game sweep.
Atlanta (30-14) will play Golden State for the championship beginning on Saturday, Oct. 17, and try to win its first WNBA title. Golden State swept Las Vegas.
The WNBA has no idea how to grow its business. Now a player is telling Sophie Cunningham and other white players to shut up for speaking out about men in women’s sports. Instead of embracing new fans, the league seems determined to alienate them. https://t.co/jtG2d3OPae

Reese hit only 7 of 18 shots, but had five offensive rebounds and three assists with three turnovers. She even hit 2 of 4 from three-point range, which has usually not been one of her strong suits.
The WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year this season, Reese was the key reason the Dream advanced to its first semifinals since 2018.
“The job isn’t done. Happy where we are right now. We’re not satisfied,” said Reese, who led LSU to its only national championship in basketball in 2023.
Atlanta won the series even without top scorer Allisha Gray, who has been sidelined with a finger injury sustained in Game 1. She missed Game 2 and warmed up before Friday night’s game, but was ruled out about an hour before the tip.
Reese took care of things anyway.
