A rare snowstorm hit Suwanee, Georgia, in January of 2025, but it did not stop then-Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin from still venturing to Collins Hill High School to visit a prospect.

“The school was closed,” Kiffin remembered on Monday at his press conference leading into his No. 10 Tigers (4-1, 1-1 Soutehastern Conference) playing at No. 25 Kentucky (4-1, 2-1 SEC) on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN).

“And there was one car in the parking lot,” Kiffin said. “And when I walked by, the window rolled down, and it’s like, ‘What’s up dog?’ It was Bo Davis.”

Davis at the time was LSU’s defensive line coach, and he was recruiting Collins Hill High defensive tackle Deuce Geralds, too.

“We were the only two people there,” Kiffin said.

Kiffin and Davis had coached together at Alabama in 2014 and ’15 when Kiffin was coach Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator and Davis was his defensive line coach.

Davis, who played defensive line at LSU from 1990-92 and was a graduate assistant (1995-97) and assistant strength coach (2002-05) with the Tigers, helped get Geralds to LSU. Davis left the Tigers after one season in 2024 to become the defensive line coach with the New Orleans Saints in February of 2025, but Geralds still committed to LSU the following August over such schools as Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon and Ole Miss. And he signed with LSU last December 5 just days after Kiffin left Ole Miss to become LSU’s coach.

Geralds is one of the top true freshman in the country this season as he is second on the Tigers with five sacks for -26 yards behind senior edge Princewill Umanmielen, who leads the nationa with eight sacks for -48 yards.

“He’s just a dynamic player who makes plays,” Kiffin said. “I just love who he is, and how relentless that he is.”
