Starting junior safety Tamarcus Cooley was off the availability report from the Southeastern Conference office on Thursday night after being listed as questionable on Wednesday.
So, that means Cooley has been cleared to play and is available for Saturday’s game between No. 10 LSU (2-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) and No. 23 Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1 SEC) in Tiger Stadium (6:30 p.m., ABC).
Cooley had five tackles with a pass breakup in LSU’s 32-24 loss at Ole Miss on Saturday night. He has seven tackles on the season with two pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Cooley is particularly valuable as he can also play the star position – a defensive back-linebacker hybrid spot. The Tigers lost their starting star for the season at Ole Miss as Dashawn Spears tore an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and has been lost for the season.
CJ Jimcoily also played the star last week as did safety Jhase Thomas, who will likely move into Cooley’s safety spot should Cooley move to star.
Meanwhile, LSU backup cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, who intercepted Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss on Saturday, was moved up to questionable on Thursday’s report after being listed as doubtful on Wednesday.
Out for the game as listed on Wednesday and Thursday are tight end Trey’Dez Green and wide receiver Phillip Wright III, who is also out for the season.
For the Aggies, backup running back Jamarion Morrow and backup wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roma were listed as questionable on Thursday after the same listing on Wednesday. Starting wide receiver/kick returner Terry Bussey is out for the game as previously reported.
