LSU safety Dashawn Spears exited the the No. 7 Tigers’ (2-0) game against No. 8 Ole Miss (2-0) with an apparent lower left leg injury at the 14-minute, 17-second mark of the second quarter and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, LSU Radio announced.
The junior, who plays the important STAR role for the Tigers’ defense, was rolled up on by LSU corner PJ Woodland while engaged with an Ole Miss blocker during a 22-yard run by Rebels’ running back Kewan Lacy. Spears was helped off the field by two medical staff members favoring his right foot and entered the medical tent. He was seen on the sideline in crutches after exiting the tent.
He was replaced by sophomore linebacker CJ Jimcoily. Ole Miss went on to finish the 11-play 92-yard drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to wide receiver Traylon Ray to extend its lead to 17-0.
