If LSU football coach Lane Kiffin wins 10 games in his first season with the Tigers, No. 10 will be in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game, or the College Football Playoff, or a bowl game.
That is how national college football writer Brett McMurphy of On3.com sees it.
“I hate to say ceiling,” McMurphy said on Tiger Rag Radio Tuesday night. “Because you guys will clip this, and then I’ll get very buried on Twitter. But I think nine’s the ceiling in the regular season.”

“It’s because of the schedule and the pressure that’s going to be on this team on a day-to-day basis because of the expectations,” McMurphy said. “They’ve won national championships with three of the last four coaches (Nick Saban, Les Miles, Ed Orgeron). So, the expectation is not to win the SEC. It’s to win the national championship.”
LSU, which is ranked No. 13 in the USA Today coaches’ poll, opens the season on Sept. 5 against No. 23 Clemson in Tiger Stadium (6:30 p.m., ABC).
“It’s going to be fascinating,” McMurphy said of Kiffin’s first season. “Must-watch TV. You know how polarizing Lane is. Everyone’s got September 19 circled.”

LSU plays at Ole Miss, where Kiffin coached from 2020-25, on Sept. 19 (6:30 p.m., ABC).
“It’ll be an interesting season,” McMurphy said.
