Ex-LSU Linebacker Deion Jones Signing With Saints – His 4th Of 4 NFC South Teams As He Goes Home

Former LSU linebacker Deion Jones completed his trip around the NFC South by signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 31-year-old is now a member of his fourth of four NFC South teams.

The New Orleans native played his high school ball at Jesuit High School before attending LSU from 2012-2016. He was a rotational and special teams contributor his first three seasons in Baton Rouge before taking over as a starter his senior year. Jones led the 2015 Tigers with 100 tackles to go along with 13.5 tackles for loss and five sacks.

He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 52 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He finished third in NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting that season with 108 tackles and three interceptions, including two pick-sixes. In six years in Atlanta, Jones racked up 652 tackles, 40 TFLs, 8.5 sacks and 11 interceptions. He was also named to the 2017 Pro Bowl.

Jones was traded to the Browns in the 2022 and went from starting 16 games each of the prior three seasons to only five in Cleveland. He made a one-year stop in Carolina before signing with the Buccaneers in 2024. He appeared in 19 games and made no starts in two seasons in Tampa.
