The LSU-Alabama annual regular season series will continue in 2026 with the Crimson Tide playing at LSU, and the Tigers will return the game in 2028, according to the Southeastern Conference scheduling announcement on Tuesday night for the league’s new nine-game schedule for seasons 2026 throug 2029.
But that means LSU and Alabama will not meet in a regular season in 2027 for the first time since 1963, eliminating the league’s biggest television game of the 2000s. Dates of the games from 2026-29 will be announced in December.
My biggest takeaway here is no LSU-Bama. The Tennessee yearly opponents will get some people riled up, but both Kentucky and Vandy consider Tennessee to be their top rival. I suspect each team got to vote for the one rival they’d most want to keep. pic.twitter.com/mqNWwtLeLt

LSU will also get Texas at home in the 2026 season for the first time since Sept. 19, 1953, when the Tigers beat the No. 11 Longhorns, 20-7, to open the season. No. 6 LSU won at No. 9 Texas, 45-38, in the last meeting between the two programs on Sept. 7, 2019. Texas has a 9-8-1 lead in the series that began in 1896 with a 14-0 LSU win in Baton Rouge.
The Texas game at LSU next year means that Texas quarterback Arch Manning of New Orleans will likely be the third member of the quarterback Manning Dynasty to play in Tiger Stadium. Arch’s grandfather Archie Manning of Ole Miss split games at LSU in 1968 and ’70, and Arch’s uncle Eli Manning split games in 2001 and ’02 at Tiger Stadium. Arch Manning will be a redshirt junior in 2026.

Archie’s oldest son Peyton Manning did not play against LSU when he was Tennessee’s quarterback from 1994-97.
What? No LSU-Bama game in near future?https://t.co/lQxvDNHhSd

The new scheduling format has each SEC team meeting all 15 other teams at least once every two years and twice (home and away) every four years. That will stop the ridiculous scheduling quirk throughout SEC history that had teams rarely meeting other teams in the league even when the SEC had only 10 teams until 1992 when it moved to 12. For example, SEC icons Herschel Walker of Georgia and Bo Jackson of Auburn, in addition to Manning of Tennessee, never played LSU.

As previously reported, LSU’s annual opponents for this first four-year cycle are Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
