Three LSU players named to watch lists for Maxwell, Bednarik awards

HOOVER, Ala. — The start of Southeastern Conference Media Days here in Hoover means the run up to football season is upon us.

That means award watch list season has begun, too.

LSU tailback Derrius Guice and edge rusher Arden Key were among 85 players named Monday to the Maxwell Award watch list. The award is given annually to the best player in college football.

Key and cornerback Kevin Toliver were also named to the Bednarik Award watch list, which is also comprised of 85 players. The honor goes to the defensive player of the year in college football.

Guice, a junior, led the SEC in rushing last season (1,387 yards) despite sharing carries with Leonard Fournette for much of the season. Key set a new single-season program record with 12 sacks last season and is one of six players named to both lists.
