2023 national champion Angel Reese returned to her old stomping grounds. The former LSU, now-Atlanta Dream Star was honored during a halftime ceremony at the LSU-Texas Southern women’s basketball game in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night.

The Tigers and coach Kim Mulkey stayed on the court to support the “Bayou Barbie,” who received a roaring standing ovation from the Deaf Dome crowd.

Reese is coming off her third and best WNBA season. After being traded from the Chicago Sky, who drafted her seventh overall in 2024, to the Atlanta Dream, she averaged a career-high 16.4 points per game to go with 12.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks a game over her 43 regular season appearances. She was named WNBA Defensive Player of the Year after setting a single-season record with 521 rebounds.

Reese was the missing piece for a Dream team she helped to its first WNBA Finals appearance since 2013. Although Atlanta came up short in a 68-63 Game 7 loss to the Golden State Valkyries, she solidified her place as one of the league’s brightest stars.

In addition to the halftime ceremony, the Tigers wore Angel Reese DPOY t-shirts during warm-ups. She joined Mulkey as she walked onto the court pregame and sat courtside next to the LSU coaches. Perhaps inspired by the reigning DPOY, LSU enjoyed a 65-13 lead at the break after holding Texas Southern scoreless in the second quarter.
