Perhaps LSU football coach Lane Kiffin and general manager Billy Glasscock need to review future transfer portal targets’ previous contracts with their previous schools, or at least ask if there is one, before proceeding and then keep up with such binding agreements after signing transfers.

Because the third LSU portal signee from Kiffin’s and Glasscock’s 2026 No. 1-ranked transfer class has been sued by his previous school for breach of contract. The latest is reserve redshirt junior offensive tackle Sean Thompkins Jr., who signed with LSU last January from Baylor.

Thompkins (6-foot-5, 308 pounds), who has played in eight games as a reserve for LSU and mostly on special teams, owes Baylor $85,000 plus attorney’s fees, court costs and interest, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday with the 170th State District Court in Waco, Texas – where Baylor is located.

The suit says Thompkins signed a Name, Image & Likenesss agreement with Baylor in December of 2025 for a year and a half through June 30, 2027. After transferring to LSU last January, the suit says Thompkins agreed to a payment schedule last May 13 to pay off the buyout incrementally. But he has not made any of the payments.

LSU portal players Princewill Umanmielen and Devin Harper have also been sued by their previous school – Ole Miss. Umanmielen, a senior edge rusher who is third in the nation this season in sacks with 8.5, owes Ole Miss $550,000, according to Ole Miss’ lawsuit. And Harper, a sophomore backup offensive lineman, owes Ole Miss $400,000, according to Ole Miss’ lawsuit. Like Thompkins, both transferred to LSU after just signing contracts with their previous school only weeks prior.

Umanmielen, Harper and LSU have still declined to pay Ole Miss the $950,000, saying it did not know of the previous contract signings. Those suits remain active.

Perhaps Kiffin or Glasscock or someone at LSU should have asked Thompkins, Umanmielen and Harper if they had previous contracts with their previous schools, if LSU in truth did not know about them?

Thompkins was expected to inform LSU or its NIL collective Playfly Sports “to make all such payments to Baylor University, as directed by the Baylor athletics general manager (Aaron Hunt),” the lawsuit says.

“Unfortunately, we now find that Mr. Thompkins has not kept his word, and has made no payment,” Baylor’s legal representation said in a statement Sept. 22 demanding payment.

LSU has made no comment on Thompkins’ alleged breach of contract.

Perhaps all incoming college athletes should have to take a basic business course as a prerequisite, such as “What Is A Contract?”

That way they won’t get law schooled.
