Kim Mulkey’s 2027 recruiting class remains at just one commit after five-star post player Zaniya Johnson announced her commitment to South Carolina on Wednesday. The Biloxi, Mississippi, native is ranked 17th in the Rivals Industry rankings and 18th overall in the ESPN rankings. She is the third-ranked post in the 2027 class.

The Tigers had been recruiting Johnson for years and hosted her for a visit in September. She also made visits to Florida State and Texas A&M and canceled her scheduled visit to Mississippi State after her trip to South Carolina.

It is another miss for Mulkey’s staff to South Carolina coach Dawn Staley as Mulkey has endured a rough stretch on the recruiting trail as of late. Five-star guard Jezelle “GG” Banks also chose the Gamecocks over LSU and Texas, and four-star guard Madeline Mignery gave her verbal pledge to Florida after visiting LSU.

Mulkey’s lone commit is five-star post Caroline Bradley. The 6-foot-5 Oak Grove High product from Oak Grove in north Louisiana is ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the 2027 class and No. 1 at her position by ESPN.

This off-season, LSU welcomed just one player in its high school recruiting class – five-star guard Lola Lampley. Lampley was ESPN’s No. 29 overall recruit. Mulkey added former Russian professional Anna Minaeva as a freshman transfer.

Mulkey’s 2025 freshmen class was No. 1 in the nation with five stars Grace Knox, ZaKiyah Johnson and Divine Bourrage and four-star Isabella Hines. But Bourrage and Hinies both transferred ahead of their sophomore seasons.
