LSU’s dominating edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen left the Mississippi State game at the 8:15 mark of the first quarter Saturday morning with what appeared to be a concussion.
Umanmielen made his second tackle of the game on the play, but after the contact he fell backwards appearing woozy. LSU trainers crowded around him on the ground for a few minutes before Umanmielen slowly walked off the field with assistance. He was in the medical tent for several minutes before watching the rest of the first half from the sideline.
The senior transfer from Ole Miss entered the game second in the nation in quarterback sacks with eight, trailing Texas defensive end Colin Simmons, who has 9.5. Umanmielen (6-foot-4, 244 pounds) has 28 tackles on the season with 15 solo stops 11 stops in all behind the line for -55 yards and a quarterback hurry.
The No. 22 Tigers (4-2, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) led No. 16 Mississippi State (4-2, 2-1 SEC) by 14-0 after the first quarter before a sold-out Tiger Stadium.
This might be a good day for Lane Kiffin to be “just different” and win his 1st as LSU’s coach vs. a good team. Column: https://t.co/LJxoxYGUo7

Junior Dylan Carpenter replaced Umanmielen and sacked State quarterback Parker Puckett for a 6-yard loss on fourth down and a yard to go from the LSU 31-yard line.
LSU has already lost two starting defenders this season – defensive back Dashawn Spears (knee) and linebacker Whit Weeks (leg). Spears is out for the season after getting injured at Ole Miss on Sept. 19. Weeks was injured against Texas A&M on Sept. 26.
