LSU football coach Lane Kiffin visited his 35-34 overtime loss last week at Kentucky one more time on his weekly radio show Thursday night before putting it away likely for good.
After being asked about it by show host Chris Blair, who did say, “Bear with me,” Kiffin responded simply and succinctly as is often the case with the well-spoken coach.
“Well, the result sucked,” he said. “There’s no other way to put it.”
Then he gave an interesting look at the game that has not been put this way previously.
“It’s very rare that twice in a game you have the ball on offense and can closet the came out, and we didn’t,” he said. “And twice on defense, we could’ve closed the game by stopping them, and we didn’t. So, we went 0-for-4.”
LSU now has two road losses by a combined nine points – 32-24 at No. 8 Ole Miss and 35-34 at No. 25 Kentucky. The No. 22 Tigers (4-2, 1-2 SEC) hosts No. 16 Mississippi State (4-2, 2-1 SEC) on Saturday (11 a.m., ESPN) in Tiger Stadium.
“Sometimes, you have the years where you get the breaks,” Kiffin said. “And sometimes, you don’t. I feel bad for the fans that in our first year here, we haven’t had the breaks.”
“If you’re an LSU fan and say, ‘If we can’t get 4th and less than a yard with everything invested in the program with one of the better offensive minds (Kiffin at $13 million a year), we probably don’t deserve to win anyway.’” – @Clowfb https://t.co/sIBCG84jW7

Kiffin compared the Kentucky loss to a night in Las Vegas.
“It’s like a great gambler who can count cards, but he doesn’t always win,” Kiffin said. “Sometimes you hit that 16 (going for it on fourth down), but it doesn’t work (Black Jack). Sometimes you stick (punting), and it doesn’t work.”
UPDATED INJURY REPORTS
Mississippi State starting quarterback Kamario Taylor (foot, turf toe) remained questionable on the SEC’s availability report released on Thursday night as did starting running back Fluff Bothwell (ankle) for Saturday’s game at LSU.
“The issue with him (Taylor) is he’s a phenomenal thrower,” Kiffin said. “Even with the injury, he can still stand in the pockeet and really throw it far down the field. He’s got an incredibly strong arm.”
For LSU, backup linebacker Tylen Singleton was downgraded from questionable to doubtful.
