LSU true freshman defensive tackle Deuce Geralds claimed his fifth sack of the season in his fifth game this year Saturday night in the Tigers’ 63-14 win over McNeese State in Tiger Stadium.
And with seven regular season games left to play in the regular season, Geralds (6-foot-1, 279 pounds) is in range of the LSU freshman record for sacks, which is 7.5 by linebacker Harold Perkins, Jr. in 2022.
And why not shoot higher? The school record is 12 set by linebacker Oliver Lawrence in 1989 and tied by defensive end Arden Key in 2016.
“I definitely feel real good about it,” said Geralds, the No. 4 defensive lineman in the nation in the class of 2026 out of Collins Hill High in Suwanee, Georgia. “I want to go crush that and get that record. I’m really working hard to get more sacks, and more sacks every game. It’s really on my mind.”
And in the stat sheet. Geralds just had two sacks last week in the win over Texas A&M.

“It really comes from a lot of hard work,” he said. “The way my parents raised me – the way I’ve been taught my whole life. Work hard, and good things will come. I’ve just been doing that. Keeping my head down and working, and everything’s falling into place for me. All I can do is thank God for it.”

As much of a rush Geralds has been this season for the No. 11 Tigers (4-1, 1-1 SEC), fifth-year senior edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen already has eight sacks on the season as he got one Saturday night as well. So, he is well within range of the Lawrence’s and Key’s sack record of 12.
In the meantime, Umanmielen is helping Geralds.
“The older guys, they’ve really been teaching me new things,” Geralds said. “A lot of things I’m still learning, and those guys, Princewill, Stephiylan Green and Malik Blocton, they’ve been real role models to me and teaching me along the way.”
While he chases Perkins’ freshman sack record, Geralds also equaled a feat by a previous LSU freshman defensive lineman. Geralds lined up in a three-man backfield and scored on a 1-yard rush for a 42-0 lead in the third quarter. In 1995, freshman defensive lineman Booger McFarland caught a touchdown pass.
“It was so great,” Geralds said. “It’s been my dream just to be in Tiger Stadium, so scoring a touchdown in Tiger Stadium was unbelievable for me. I’m just real thankful, and I’m blessed for it.”
